Flap vs Flapless LASIK - Which is Better?
Flap-based procedures are commonly recommended because recovery is typically very fast. Most patients experience clear vision within 24 hours. In flapless procedures, recovery is slower, and it may take about 7–10 days to achieve fully stable clarity.

However, flapless surgery may be preferred in certain situations. If corneal thickness is lower than ideal, creating a flap may not be advisable. In patients involved in contact sports such as boxing, martial arts, or kabaddi—where facial impact is possible—flapless procedures may reduce long-term flap-related risks. In some medical exam cases, flap-based procedures may leave minimal detectable changes, but eligibility always depends on official guidelines.

In this video, we answer a question from a 17-year-old with very high power (–10 and –10.25) preparing for a defence/medical exam.

For such high numbers, LASIK or PRK are usually not suitable. The more appropriate option is often ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens), where a lens is placed inside the eye without removing the natural lens.

⚠️ Important: ICL lenses are detectable during detailed medical evaluations. If surgery is being considered only to clear a specific medical exam, it’s essential to carefully check the official eligibility rules first.

For long-term freedom from thick glasses, ICL can be considered after proper evaluation and once age and number stability criteria are met.

Always consult a qualified ophthalmologist and review official medical standards before making a decision.

In this video, we answer a question from a 24-year-old engineer with mild eye power (–1.00 and –1.25) who works long hours on a computer and is worried about LASIK side effects, especially dry eyes.

🔹 There is no proven natural or non-surgical way to permanently remove eye power. Glasses and contact lenses only correct vision temporarily.
🔹 LASIK and laser vision correction have been safely performed for decades. Temporary dryness can occur, but it is usually manageable with eye drops.
🔹 With low power and young age, surgery is not compulsory. The choice depends on comfort, lifestyle, and whether removing glasses truly adds convenience.

If glasses work well for you, it’s absolutely fine to continue using them.

In this video, we answer a viewer’s comment from a young patient who shared that their eye power is -1.75 in both eyes, they have been wearing glasses for only two months, and their age is 18 years. The question was whether surgery can be done immediately or not.

At this age, eye power can still be in a stabilisation phase, especially if glasses were started recently. That is why the advice given in this video is to observe the eye power for at least 6 months. After six months, the eyes should be re-evaluated. If there is no major change in power, surgery can be safely planned. Minor variations like 0.25–0.50 are considered acceptable and are often due to testing variability, but a change of 0.75 or more means waiting longer is advisable.

Since the patient is very young, the video also explains why choosing a future-ready technology, such as Wavelight Plus InnovEyes, may be beneficial, as it accounts for long-term changes and helps reduce the chances of power returning later.

In this video, we answer a viewer’s question by Advocate Rajendra Ji about Refractive Lens Exchange (lens replacement surgery) — is it safe, and can it correct both distance and near vision?

Refractive lens exchange is a safe, well-established procedure where the eye’s natural lens is replaced with an artificial lens. Since the natural lens is removed, it also eliminates future cataract risk.

Whether you become spectacle-free depends on the type of lens:

Monofocal lens: clear distance vision only

EDOF lens: good distance & intermediate vision, reading glasses usually needed

Multifocal/Trifocal lens: can reduce glasses for all distances, but may cause glare or halos and isn’t ideal for frequent night drivers

2026 में कौन सी LASIK Laser चुने? SiLK vs Wavelight Plus InnovEyes

1️⃣ Wavelight Plus InnovEyes
• Made by Alcon, introduced in 2024.
• Can do: Flap-based - a thin corneal flap is made, and laser reshapes the cornea or no flap, laser works on cornea surface.
• Fast recovery: most see clearly within 12-24 hours.
• Very precise with advanced eye-tracking.

2️⃣ SILK Procedure
• Made by Johnson & Johnson, started in 2023.
• Works differently: no flap is made.
• A thin layer inside the cornea (lenticule) is created with a laser and removed.
• Vision results are excellent; recovery is a little slower than LASIK but still quick.
