Have you fallen for the gut "reset" after a heavy weekend?

Or decided to start the new year with a detox plan?

The internet 🌐 is full of viral detox plans that aim to reset your system and reverse all the damage from heavy drinking, lack of sleep, carby junk foods and all that a good time consists of.

But is a reset really what we need?

The short answer is No.
Turns out the Gut is super efficient and resilient. It often finds its way back after a weekend of junk eating. So that's the good news. Within 48hours of a bad weekend, the gut microbes reset on their own - fighting off the hangover.

But the long answer is all the bloating, constipation, break outs and volatile blood spikes are a sign of long term buildup.

So what's more important is your daily intake of nutrients and antioxidants. The long term project is where the cure lies.
Focus on the long game and build sustainable, repeatable habits - much more effective for a healthy gut.

What are the key πŸ—οΈ ways to do this?

- Diet is key. Eat more fibre, about 70% of your diet should be plant based and include fermented foods.

- Relax and ease the mind. Your brain constantly sends signals to the microbiome, meditation strongly influenced the gut during periods of disruption

While there are only traces of alcohol in anything fermented (including coffee, chocolates and the likes), Caffeine is one factor to account for as well.

Kombucha and Koffucha carry 1/3rd the caffiene content you find in regular Tea and Coffee. However, there are many caffiene free options to pick from too!

Cold Winter Day & No Sun in sight?

Pushing yourself to move even when the weather calls for a longer snooze becomes more necessary on such gloomy days.

The concept of "Good Stress" asks for doing some uncomfortable things in the now, so you can keep reaping the benefits later (short-term & long-term).

When you get off the couch & go listen to the birdies outside, you help your blood flow up to the braincells, you allow you optical flow to lighten the mood & you get a longer lasting sense of things being alright (safe).

That positive stress can go a long way in getting you through some tough times.
Plus, your body remembers your choices - so the next time, it'll be that much easier to make a "healthy" choice.
