Don’t miss the opportunity to join the 2 days Intensive Sitar Workshop with Shri Soumitra Thakur on 30th & 31st August 2025 - Saturday & Sunday

From 2PM To 8PM IST. Specially designed for EST & AEDT and other time zones.
All Sitar and other Indian classical instrumentalists from all over the world are welcome to join the class and go on a melodic journey with him.
The intensive workshop will cover the Basic Aspects of playing Sitar, thorough understanding of Riyaz techniques, learning new compositions, Alankars, Gayaki, Tantrakari, Sargam, mastering skill over left and right hand coordination, correcting strokes with right amount of pressure, designing your own practice session etc
The workshop will be in a hybrid form which will include both offline and online forms.

About the artist:
Soumitra Thakur was initiated into the world of music when, at the tender age of four, he began training in sitar under his uncle Shri Prashanta Thakur, who belongs to the rich heritage of Bishnupur Gharana.
He has been undergoing intensive training under Pt Kushal Das Ji of The Maihar Gharana for over a decade.
While he briefly underwent training from Ustad Rashid Khan, he completed his MA in music from the University of Delhi, winning the Gold Medal on his course completion. He is a research scholar from the University of Delhi.
Soumitra Thakur is an approved A Grade Artist from All India Radio. He has received the Balshree Award (President’s Award) for Creative Performance in 2009 from the then Honourable President of India, Smt Pratibha Patil.
He was awarded the 1st Position at the Doverlane Music Conference, Kolkata apart from being felicitated as the “Best Instrumentalist’ for the year 2011-2012 there.
He has performed in India and abroad 🙏🏾
