If you are looking for good broccoli substitutes, you may be amazed by the list of alternatives in the vegetable aisle. Broccoli may rank high on the nutrition chart list, but its bitter taste can put many people off. However, this green cruciferous vegetable has now become a common choice for anybody who is trying to eat healthier food.

Be it the Keto diet, vegan diet, or the military diet, eating broccoli is recommended because it is packed with nutrition and fiber. However, if you are not a broccoli lover or are looking for alternative healthy vegetables to eat, there are many options to choose from.

Top Broccoli Substitutes
The top broccoli substitutes include cruciferous vegetables from the same family (Brassicaceae) such as cauliflower, green cabbage, kale, brussels sprouts and Swiss chard. Other healthy alternatives include spinach and asparagus.

broccoli substitutes

Cauliflower
Cauliflower is the closest substitute you can get to broccoli. They look the same and have a similar texture when grated, steamed, or puréed. Both are low in calories and carbohydrates. However, cauliflower scores less on fiber, protein, and vitamins A, C, and K comparatively.
Spinach
If you are looking to increase your greens in your daily diet, spinach makes a great substitute for broccoli.
Green Cabbage
Green cabbage tastes delicious and gets a crispy texture when stir-fried. It can be added to salads and noodle dishes. Use 1/2 cup shredded cabbage for a cup of the florets. You can also use Napa cabbage or bok choy.
Kale
Kale makes a great superfood substitute as it is packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It can be sautéed or eaten raw in salads.
Swiss Chard
Swiss chard is packed with antioxidants and vitamins A, C, and K and makes a good nutrient-rich alternative.
Brussels Sprouts
Roasted brussels sprouts with garlic and olive oil make an excellent side dish if you cannot stand broccoli.

Asparagus
Just like broccoli, asparagus is rich in folate, fiber, and B vitamins. You can use asparagus in quiches and pasta instead of the cruciferous vegetable.

Collard Greens
Collard greens are nutritious green leafy vegetables which are related to broccoli and make a healthy substitute for the latter.

Other Substitutes
Broccoli rabe can be used, however, it is more bitter to taste. You can also try using broccolini or the more exotic broccoflower.

University of Illinois researcher Elizabeth Jeffery has learned how to maximize the cancer-fighting power of broccoli. It involves heating broccoli just enough to eliminate a sulfur-grabbing protein, but not enough to stop the plant from releasing an important cancer-fighting compound called sulfora...

ACID VS ALKALINE DIET
Our bodys internal system needs a PH of just above 7.0; our immunologic, enzymatic and repair mechanisms all function at their best in this alkaline range.
If our body becomes over acidic, i.e. under a PH of 7, you may start to experience a combination of these symptoms;
Low energy, fatigue
Nasal congestion
Hives
Muscle Pain
Weak nails, dry skin, dry hair
Frequent colds, flu and infection
Headaches

If you have these symptoms and eat foods which create acid in the body, you may need to balance it with an alkaline diet.
What foods cause acid in the body?
There is a whole list of foods that cause the body to be over-acidic: dairy and dairy substitutes, animal meat, most grains, chickpeas, condiments, aspartame, prunes, chocolate, peanuts, alcohol and quite a few other types of foods.

To balance your PH, the remedy is simple and logical; eat more alkaline causing foods.
To name but a few of these foods, there is; watermelon, lime, mango, most vegetables, vegetable juices, almonds, sprouts, avocados and green tea.

When youre body becomes more alkaline, the changes that will take place are truly amazing! It will seem magical, but its all perfectly normal. You will feel how we all have the right to feel, we just dont know it.

Benefits include:
Rapid weight loss
Increased energy
The need for less sleep
Improved skin and hair condition
Better mental attitude

Are these benefits worth pursuing? I think so, and you are crazy if you dont agree with me! Fortunately, it is not hard to slowly alkalise your body. Take it one day at a time, add more and more green food to your diet, reduce the number of cups of coffee you have every day and youll soon reap the benefits.
