🌕 Sharad Purnima 2025 – Importance & Rituals

🗓 Date: Monday, 6 October 2025
🕉 Purnima Tithi: Begins – 12:23 PM (6 Oct)
Ends – 9:16 AM (7 Oct)



🌸 🌕 Importance (Mahatva)

Sharad Purnima is the night of divine moonlight and blessings.
It is believed that on this night, the Moon shines with all sixteen kalas (phases) — symbolizing complete beauty, purity, and power.

✨ Spiritual Beliefs:
1. 🌙 On this night, moonlight drips “Amrit” (nectar) that brings health, peace, and spiritual glow.
2. 🌾 Marks the end of monsoon and beginning of the cool, pleasant Sharad season.
3. 💫 According to legends, Lord Krishna performed the Maha Raas Leela with Radha and the Gopis on this divine night in Vrindavan.
4. 💰 Goddess Lakshmi also roams the Earth on Sharad Purnima night, blessing awake devotees with prosperity and fortune.
5. 🕉 It is also known as Kojagiri Purnima, meaning — “Kaun Jagta Hai?” (“Who is awake?”). Goddess Lakshmi blesses those who remain awake and pray at night.



🪔 🌾 Rituals (Vidhi & Upay)

🕉 1. Fasting (Vrat)
• Many devotees observe a Sharad Purnima fast (Kojagiri Vrat).
• Fast is observed from sunrise till moonrise.
• At night, devotees offer kheer (sweet milk & rice) to the moon and later consume it as prasadam.



🌕 2. Moon Worship (Chandra Pujan)
• In the evening, set up a small altar facing the moon.
• Offer flowers, incense, white sweets, and milk.
• Chant:
“Om Shraam Shreem Shraum Sah Chandraya Namah” (108 times)
• Gaze at the moonlight with devotion and peace.



🍚 3. Kheer Under Moonlight (Sharad Purnima Amrit Kheer)
• Prepare kheer (milk, rice, sugar, cardamom).
• Place it in a silver or glass bowl under the open sky all night.
• Next morning, eat it as amrit prasadam.
✨ It is believed that moon rays infuse healing energy and cooling effect into it.



🪶 4. Night Vigil (Jagaran)
• Stay awake through the night singing bhajans, lighting lamps, and chanting Vishnu or Lakshmi names.
• Some people meditate or do Gayatri Mantra / Maha Mrityunjaya Jaap for inner peace.



💰 5. Charity (Daan)
• Donate white food items like rice, sugar, milk, clothes, or sweets to the needy.
• White represents peace, purity, and moon energy.
