We're thrilled to announce the launch of the Course for Private Practitioners on NTEP 🎉. This milestone was achieved recently during the Indian Medical Association Central Council Meeting, held in association with the All India Medical Conference at Engineering Staff College, Hyderabad. The course aims to build capacities of private practitioners across the country with comprehensive knowledge on the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program ( ).

🌟 Commemorating 10 Years of Medanta’s Mission TB Free India 🌟

Under the visionary leadership of , Chairman and Managing Director of Medanta, India has successfully demonstrated a model of active case finding 🔍 through Mobile X-ray Vans 🚑 for Doorstep TB Screening.

This public-private partnership 💡, initiated in 2014 with the Haryana State, has today expanded to a nationwide mission. This initiative was the result of a strategic dialogue between the Central TB Division, Mohfw, India, USAID India, and Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union).

Medanta was among the first corporate hospitals 🏥 to sign up for the . The Corporate TB Pledge secretariat, hosted at USAID India supported International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) led iDEFEAT TB Project provides technical expertise ✅ to Medanta.

✨ On August 29, 2024, Medanta celebrated a 🎉 of its program. The event was graced by the presence of Hon'ble Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India, Smt. Anupriya Patel.

⏩ Other key dignitaries included Prof. (Dr.) Urvshi B. Singh, DDG (TB), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India; Dr. Viren Yadav, City Medical Officer (CMO); Dr. Hitesh Verma, State TB Officer, Haryana, Gurgaon; Dr. Reuben Swamickan, Deputy Director, Health Office, USAID India; Ms. Nidhi Bansal, Country Director, The Union; and Mr. Ashok Kapoor, Chairman, Krishna Maruti Group.

The State TB Training and Demonstration Centre (STDC) in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala has officially launched the ECHO TB Clinic on Diagnostic Management of TB (DMT). This program, "ECHO Training on Quality Assurance of Laboratory Personnel-NTEP," is designed to enhance the skills of Senior TB Laboratory Supervisors (STLS) across the state.

The launch event was a success, with 39 STLSs from various districts participating. Dr. Shiyas Muhammed, Consultant at STDC Kerala, and Dr. Jyothy Susan Varghese, Director of STDC Kerala, delivered insightful addresses. Special thanks to Ms. Hima, Microbiologist, and Ms. Harsha, State DRTB Coordinator, for their valuable contributions.

Kerala joining as the 24th state in this program will bring about a positive impact on TB diagnostic services in the region. Thank you to everyone involved for making this launch a success. We look forward to many more impactful sessions ahead!

🚀 Exciting News! 🚀

We are thrilled to be a part of the much-awaited release of the “TB Free Workplace: Guidance Document 📄" developed by the Central TB Division, Mohfw, India, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) India, International Labour Organization (ILO), and USAID India supported International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) led iDEFEAT TB Project.

The Guidance Document was launched during the National Review Meeting organized in Delhi by the Central TB Division, MoHFW.

In India, with over 500 million workers, the majority of whom are employed in the unorganized sector with limited or no access to and , the loss of lives, income, and workdays due to is significant. Therefore, the impact of TB on the “ ” is even more pronounced, making it critical to eliminate TB from our nation.

The Guidance Document on TB Free Workplace bridges the gap between the sector and organizations. It provides a practical direction to all employers for implementing activities to protect their workforce from tuberculosis and, in turn, improve overall productivity.

🌟 Successful Off-Site Team Review🌟

We are thrilled to share the highlights from our recent off-site visit to !

A fantastic team review was organized for the entire project team of the iDEFEAT TB Project, with an objective to reimagine International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) core values of , , , and and promote a cross-learning environment across the team. Taking a step away from our regular environment provided a fresh perspective and an opportunity to reconnect with each other.

The two-day review was built on sharing insights about the project-led activities and a series of discussions that engaged the entire team through fun & creative ways of presentations, role-plays and interactions. The team-building activities demonstrated key aspects of project management and shared core principles of , , , and in day-to-day working styles.

Key takeaways from our off-site:
➡ : Open and honest conversations strengthened and improved our communication.
➡ : We clarified our vision and set clear, achievable goals for the upcoming year.

Dr Bhavin Vadera from USAID India joined the team review and shared his thoughts and perspectives on the activities led by the iDEFEAT TB Project throughout the past four years. Further, the need to elevate TB elimination efforts by introducing new and innovative solutions in support of the National TB Elimination Programme was highlighted as a part of the discussions.

The review was enlightened by the virtual presence of Nick Southern, Regional Director, International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) and emphasized the great history holds in advocating public health and tuberculosis across the world. The review concluded with the sharing of new and innovative ideas for the future project.

(TB) largely strikes people in their prime working years (15-60 years age group). Therefore, it is imperative to create a work environment where TB is addressed and provision of TB services for the workers is made available.

Under the leadership of the Central TB Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, a Webinar on “Orientation on Tuberculosis and Workplace Intervention for Medical Officers” was organised on April 9, 2024. The webinar introduced the concept and method of implementing a and appraised the Medical Officers with the recent updates on Tuberculosis and the National TB Elimination Programme ( ).

The webinar was attended by over 60 Medical officers from different PSUs including Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., ONGC Limited, Cochin Shipyard Ltd, Coal India Limited, BCCL, DEENDAYAL PORT AUTHORITY, Cochin Port Authority, BEST Mumbai, NTPC Limited, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and many more.

Dr Sanjay Kumar Mattoo, ADDG (TB), , MoHFW, encouraged the medical officers to initiate a TB-free Workplace at their organisations. The highlight of the webinar was the session by Dr Sandeep Sharma, Chief General Manager, (H,S&E-Medical), Indian Oil Corporation, he presented IOCL’s TB Free Workplace intervention model. Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, known for its commitment towards excellent patient care, medical research, and education in the country has been supporting NTEP through its leading TB elimination interventions. They have vast experience in implementing the Anti-TB Stewardship program, Community-led activities, TB Awareness Initiatives with Active Case Finding and establishing the STEPS Centre.

Amplifying their efforts, Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, with an aim to forge and for bringing together the private healthcare sector launched the ‘End TB Alliance” initiative. The End TB Alliance initiative aims to replicate the TB interventions led by Amrita and develop a Hub and Spoke model with the support of the Secretariat.

With this approach, Amrita Hospitals will serve as a ; a learning site for private healthcare providers in implementing STEPS Center, Anti TB stewardship program and more TB-related activities to accelerate the TB Elimination Efforts across the country. During this year’s Campaign, , the outstanding commitment of in implementing The System for TB Elimination in Private Sector (STEPS) is emerging exponentially!

Yashoda Super Specialty Hospitals, Kaushambi a leading hospital group in the country, under the visionary leadership of Dr Upasana Arora is committed to providing high-quality medical care. They have initiated various interventions for supporting the national mission to eliminate TB.

As we are striving towards accelerating our TB Elimination Efforts in light of our campaign, , we are proud to have the outstanding involvement and collaborative efforts of our across the nation!

We are happy to share that Medanta with Hero MotoCorp, has set an excellent example and has unfolded an all-new innovation to implement active TB Screening in Delhi. On March 18, 2024, Medanta, in collaboration with the USAID India supported The Union South East Asia led iDEFEAT TB project, organized a “PARTNERS CONSULTATION: PAVING THE WAY FOR TB-FREE URBAN COMMUNITIES ”.

During the event, Medanta launched a two-wheeler Mobile X-ray unit, supported by Hero MotoCorp. The unit will have a rider equipped with handheld X-ray with AI, and provide door-step access to X-ray screening for difficult-to-reach communities in Delhi. In addition, a Mobile X-ray Screening Van supported by Krishna Maruti Group, was also launched.

Further, consultation demonstrated interventions and models for TB screening and testing effectively implemented among the homeless population in Delhi. Additionally, it highlighted that collaboration and leveraging individual expertise with a multi-sectoral approach can collectively produce models that are key to , and .

On March 20, 2024, campaign, - Corporates championing to accelerate efforts in eliminating TB, was launched under the leadership of Central TB Division, Mohfw, India. The launch, chaired by Dr Rajendra P Joshi, DDG (TB), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India was attended by #70 corporates from across the country.

This month-long campaign will focus on corporates demonstrating , other corporates to work on TB and mobilizing more corporates to accelerate efforts on TB collaboratively.

We aim to have corporates champion and accelerate efforts in eliminating TB by initiating activities on five major pillars , , , , and .
