Minerals are those elements on the earth and in foods that our bodies need to develop and function normally. Just like Vitamins, Minerals are also Micronutrients, check out post โ #5 Micronutrientsโ in What is series to know more, and we need them in small quantities. These also need to be obtained through diet since our body cannot produce them.

- Keep immune system strong
- Help in healing wounds
- Required for cell repair
- Important for proper muscle functioning
- Important for water balance in the body
- Maintain bone and tooth health
- Necessary for activation of certain enzymes
- Maintenance of cardiovascular health and nerve-cell function regulation
- Certain minerals are required for proper functioning of the hormones and glands
Minerals are of two types: ๐๐ข๐ค๐ณ๐ฐ ๐ฎ๐ช๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ข๐ญ๐ด ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ต๐ณ๐ข๐ค๐ฆ ๐ฎ๐ช๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ข๐ญ๐ด. Macro minerals are needed in larger quantities are compared to trace minerals. Calcium, Phosphorous, Magnesium, Sodium, Chloride, Potassium and Sulphur are macro minerals while Iron, Manganese, Copper, Zinc, Iodine, Fluoride and Selenium are trace minerals.
