Insoluble fiber is the one which does not dissolve in water example Cellulose and Hemicellulose while soluble is the one which dissolves in water and forms a gel-like substance like Gum and Mucilage.

Based on age and gender, the daily intake ranges from 21gm to 40gm. Females between the ages of 19 to 50 should have 25gm of fiber and males between the ages of 19 to 50 should have 38gm of fiber.

If you have lunch post 2 pm, your entire schedule gets disturbed, and you either end up skipping meals or having them at odd hours. This results in heaviness, bloating, and water retention.

Minerals are those elements on the earth and in foods that our bodies need to develop and function normally. Just like Vitamins, Minerals are also Micronutrients, check out post โ€˜ #5 Micronutrientsโ€™ in What is series to know more, and we need them in small quantities. These also need to be obtained through diet since our body cannot produce them.

- Keep immune system strong
- Help in healing wounds
- Required for cell repair
- Important for proper muscle functioning
- Important for water balance in the body
- Maintain bone and tooth health
- Necessary for activation of certain enzymes
- Maintenance of cardiovascular health and nerve-cell function regulation
- Certain minerals are required for proper functioning of the hormones and glands

Minerals are of two types: ๐˜”๐˜ข๐˜ค๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ ๐˜ฎ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ด ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ค๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฎ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ด. Macro minerals are needed in larger quantities are compared to trace minerals. Calcium, Phosphorous, Magnesium, Sodium, Chloride, Potassium and Sulphur are macro minerals while Iron, Manganese, Copper, Zinc, Iodine, Fluoride and Selenium are trace minerals. For people who follow the circadian rhythm or have 3 main meals a day, the optimal time to have breakfast is between 7:30 am to 9:30 am and no later than 10:00 am.
This is especially important if you're trying to lose weight as there must be a gap of a minimum of 3 to 4 hours between each major meal. Consuming your meals without giving proper gaps will cause a lot of digestive issues as well as will hinder your weight loss.

We learnt about the three Macronutrients in the previous posts, now, let us see what Micronutrients: Vitamins and Minerals are.

As we discussed in the previous post ( #5 Micronutrients), Vitamins are organic compounds that people need in small quantities and you need to obtain them through diet since our body does not produce them or cannot produce enough of them.

๐…๐”๐๐‚๐“๐ˆ๐Ž๐๐’:
- Are antioxidants
- Help in keeping bones healthy
- Required for healthy skin, nails, hair
- Required for bodily processes like production of collagen
- Essential for healthy organs
- Essential for DNA and RNA synthesis
- Metabolises fats, Proteins and Carbs
- Required for proper functioning of certain enzymes and hormones
- Build immunity

There are 13 recognized vitamins and are divided into two categories: Fat soluble vitamins and water-soluble vitamins. Fat soluble vitamins are, as the name suggests, soluble in fat and can be stored in the body while water soluble vitamins are soluble in water and cannot be stored in the body therefore need to be consumed regularly. Vitamin A, D, E & K are fat soluble vitamins while all Vitamin Bs and Vitamin C are water soluble. More on each of these in subsequent posts.

As we discussed in the previous post ( #4 Macronutrients), Fats are one of the three macronutrients that are required by our bodies in large quantities and are esters of fatty acids. These are organic compounds made up of Carbon (C), Hydrogen (H) and Oxygen (O).

Saturated fats are those which remain ๐˜ด๐˜ฐ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฅ ๐˜ข๐˜ต ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ ๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ while Unsaturated fats remain ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฒ๐˜ถ๐˜ช๐˜ฅ ๐˜ข๐˜ต ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ ๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ. Unsaturated fats are further of two types: monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. Monounsaturated fats are molecules that have one double bond and polyunsaturated fats are molecules that have more than one double bond. There is another type of fat called the ๐˜›๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ด-๐˜ง๐˜ข๐˜ต, which is formed when oils are hydrogenised. This is the worst kind of fat one can consume. Consumption of too much of salt leads to high blood pressure, cardiovascular issues, water retention, weight gain and bloating.
- ๐‡๐ข๐ ๐ก ๐ข๐ง ๐๐š๐ ๐Ÿ๐š๐ญ - A standard serving of potato chips contains 12 percent of your daily recommended amount of fat, and 5 percent of this comes from saturated fat (hydrogenated vegetable oils) which are very harmful for the body.

Proteins are the most important nutrient. In fact, the word protein comes from the Greek word ๐˜ฑ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ฐ๐˜ด which means โ€˜๐˜ฑ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜บโ€™.

But what are proteins? As we discussed in the previous post ( #4 Macronutrients), Proteins are one of the three macronutrients that are required by our bodies in large quantities.

Proteins, also known as the building blocks of our body, are biomolecules made up of different amino acids. There are 20 amino acids which form thousands of different Proteins in our bodies.

- Growth and maintenance of the body
- Proteins make up enzymes
- Proteins make hormones which act as messengers in the body
- Provide structure by providing cells with stiffness and rigidity.
- Help maintain proper pH
- Regulate processes to balance body fluid
- Help in the formation of antibodies
- Help in transporting substances through bloodstream
- Provide energy in the absence of carbs
- Aid in DNA replication

There are two types of amino acids: essential and non-essential. Non-essential amino acids are the ones which are body can produce on its own and therefore we do not need to consume them, and essential amino acids are the ones which we need to consume.
