Tendinitis is the inflammation or irritation of a tendon, the thick cord connecting muscle to bone, which causes pain and tenderness near a joint. It often results from repetitive motions or overuse, leading to symptoms like pain, swelling, and stiffness, especially when moving. Treatment typically involves the RICE method (rest, ice, compression, elevation), pain relievers, and physical therapy, with severe cases sometimes requiring stronger medical intervention.
Symptoms
Pain and tenderness along the tendon, typically near a joint
Pain that worsens with movement or activity
A dull ache, especially at night
Stiffness, particularly in the morning
Swelling
A "catching" or popping sensation when moving the affected area
Causes
Repetitive movements: Jobs or hobbies that involve repetitive motions are common culprits.
Sudden injury or strain: Overexerting the tendon through a sudden movement can lead to inflammation.
Age: Tendons become less flexible as people age, making them more prone to injury.
