Ancient Indian Science or Vedic Science, a humongous topic about which we can speak at length. Our country has a heritage of Traditions, Social norms, Vibrant Cultures, Numerous Languages, and Technologies. We’ve heard many stories from our grandparents about the rituals we follow, different Gods, and the magic they can cast. This beautiful heritage also consists of the two most important and impactful literary epics, Ramayana and Mahabharat.
The Ramayana is one of the largest ancient epics in world literature. It is one of the most studied Mahakavya (Epic poetry). It consists of nearly 24,000 verses, divided into seven Khanda (parts).
Mahabharath is another longest epic poem known. It narrates the struggle between two groups of cousins in the Kurukshetra War and the fates of the Kaurava and the Pandava princes and their successors.
Indian culture is very rich in terms of Scriptures. It has one of the oldest scriptures in the world known as the Vedas. The word Veda in Sanskrit means “Wisdom or Knowledge”. The Sages in ancient India were well-versed with various branches of science. They taught it in the form of Vedas and other scriptures to their disciples in the ashrams established by them. The Vedas are filled with the principles and proof of the contemporary Indian scientific thought of those times.
There are four types of Vedas
Rig Veda
Yajur Veda
Atharva Veda
Sama Veda
Apart from the Vedas, Ancient Indian literature also had Upanishads and Puranas which had information about human life and religion.
The religious book of Bhagwat Gita was also written here.
It’s a land of Ayurveda and introduced Yoga the best meditation practice to the whole world.
Have you ever imagined how Vishnu Purana (An Ancient Hindu sculpture) knew the actual age of Earth? How the gravitational force or the power of attraction was mentioned in Rig Veda? How the concept of time dilation was introduced in the story of Rewati daughter of Kakudmi by Brahmaji? Even the concept of the Multiverse was mentioned in puranic Hindu literature.
All these topics are worth a read. In today’s world, no one has time to study all the Vedas in depth to find out such interesting scientific facts. Through this blog, we together try to understand and discuss the forgotten Indian science and its findings.
