*AN APPEAL TO CONSCIENTIOUS CITIZENS AND FELLOW INDIANS*
*FOR A SECOND FREEDOM STRUGGLE – JUDICIAL REFORMS FOR A JUST INDIA*
Dear Fellow Indians,
Greetings on the auspicious occasion of Dusshehra wherein we celebrate the *triumph of truth and righteousness over evil and wickedness*. On this occasion, we ought to remember that more than a century ago, our forefathers fought valiantly for our nation’s independence from the colonial rule. Let us recall the names of some of the major torch bearers and heroes whose selfless sacrifices and efforts made it possible to end the rule of Britain over India and which established the rule of Indian Constitution adopted, enacted and given exclusively by Indians to the fellow Indians citizens.
We ought to remember:
i. Dadabhai Naoroji (1825–1917) – the “Grand Old Man of India,” who first exposed the economic exploitation of India by the British and gave voice to our national awakening.
ii. Bal Gangadhar Tilak (1856–1920) – who declared, “Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it.”
Gopal Krishna Gokhale (1866–1915) – the moderate statesman and mentor of Gandhiji, who worked for constitutional reforms and social upliftment.
iii. Lala Lajpat Rai (1865–1928) – the Lion of Punjab who braved British lathis with unshakable courage.
iv. Mahatma Gandhi (1869–1948) – who turned truth and non-violence into the mightiest weapons against an empire.
v. Jawaharlal Nehru (1889–1964) – who envisioned a modern democratic India and carried forward the struggle with relentless passion.
vi. Subhas Chandra Bose (1897–1945) – who thundered, “Give me blood, and I will give you freedom.”
vii. Sardar Patel (1875-1950_ - the architect of modern India who integrated 100s of princely states into one strong nation.
viii. Sardar Bhagat Singh (1907–1931) – the young martyr who kissed the gallows for our nation’s liberty.
