Understanding Hydrosalpinx and IVF
Dr. Shweta explains that hydrosalpinx — fluid-filled fallopian tubes — can affect IVF outcomes, especially when both sides are involved. Many centers recommend surgery before IVF, but that isn’t always necessary.
If only one tube is affected, IVF can still be successful without removing it. The pregnancy rate may be slightly lower, but it’s far from zero.
In cases of large hydrosalpinx on both sides, we may recommend egg freezing first to preserve fertility before further treatment.
With careful evaluation and personalized care, even complex fertility challenges can have hope.
