⚠️ **Foodborne illnesses** are caused by harmful bacteria, viruses, parasites, or chemicals that enter the body through contaminated food or water.

🧑‍🍳 The good news? **Most foodborne illnesses are preventable—and prevention starts in your kitchen.**

🤢 Each year, **600 million people** fall ill due to unsafe food. But you can protect yourself and others by following these simple, science-based practices:

1️⃣ **Keep clean** – Wash hands, surfaces, and utensils frequently.
2️⃣ **Separate raw and cooked foods** – Prevent cross-contamination.
3️⃣ **Cook thoroughly** – Especially meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs.
4️⃣ **Maintain safe temperatures** – Keep food out of the “danger zone” (5°C–60°C).
5️⃣ **Use safe water and ingredients** – Always check for freshness and quality.

🙌 These steps are especially critical for children, pregnant women, the elderly, and anyone with a weakened immune system.

# # # Why food safety matters:

🦠 Prevents over 200 foodborne diseases
🥗 Supports healthy, nutritious diets
👩‍🍳 Ensures safe food preparation and handling
🌍 Boosts trade and access to global markets
🗑️ Reduces food waste and loss

**Safe food is a right—for everyone, everywhere.** Whether at home, in restaurants, or any place food is prepared.

The recommendations put forth by the Society of Integrated Professionals to enhance patient safety care have resulted in an unforeseen and significant impact.
With an authenticated prescription, antibiotics will no longer be dispensed, and doctors are required to specify the indication when prescribing antimicrobial drugs, in adherence to the quality standards set by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH). This accreditation is mandatory for all health insurance or third-party administrator (TPA) coverage, demonstrating the commitment to providing beneficiaries with high-quality care. The government has urgently appealed to doctors to include the indication when prescribing antimicrobials, which encompass antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals, and antiseptics. The Director General of Health Services (DGHS), Atul Goel, has communicated to all medical colleges, emphasizing the implementation of schedule H and H1 of the Drugs and Cosmetic Rules by pharmacists, who should dispense antibiotics only with valid prescriptions. It is crucial for doctors to specify the exact indications on their prescriptions for antimicrobials, as highlighted in the provided references: Navbharat Times ePaper front page date 19/1/2024 , https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/government-to-doctors-mention-indication-while-prescribing-antimicrobial/articleshow/106973755.cms, https://health.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/policy/dghs-urges-pharmacist-associations-to-dispense-antibiotics-solely-on-qualified-doctor-prescriptions/106972237, https://www.msn.com/en-in/news/other/government-to-doctors-mention-indication-while-prescribing-antimicrobial/ar-AA1nd5o7

If you suspect that you or someone else is experiencing an adverse drug reaction, here are some general steps to consider:

Stop Taking the Medication:

If you suspect a medication is causing an adverse reaction, stop taking it immediately. Do not continue taking the medication until you consult with a healthcare professional.
Seek Medical Attention:

Contact your healthcare provider or go to the nearest emergency room if the reaction is severe. If the symptoms are less severe, schedule an appointment with your healthcare provider as soon as possible.
Provide Information:

Be prepared to provide information about the medication, including the name, dosage, and how long you've been taking it. Also, describe the symptoms you're experiencing in detail.
Do Not Self-Medicate:

Avoid taking over-the-counter medications to treat the symptoms without consulting a healthcare professional. Some medications may interact with the one causing the adverse reaction.
Follow Medical Advice:

Follow the advice of your healthcare provider. They may adjust your medication, recommend an alternative, or provide other appropriate measures to address the adverse reaction.
Report to Regulatory Agencies:

In some countries, there are systems in place to report adverse drug reactions to regulatory agencies. Your healthcare provider can guide you on how to report such incidents.
Document the Reaction:

Keep a record of the adverse reaction, including when it started, the symptoms experienced, and any actions taken. This information can be valuable for your healthcare provider.
Remember that this information is general, and specific advice may vary based on individual circumstances. Always consult with a healthcare professional for personalized guidance.
