Feeling a swollen or tender lump on your elbow? It might be Olecranon Bursitis! This condition occurs when the bursa—a small fluid-filled sac at the tip of your elbow—gets inflamed due to repetitive motion, injury, or prolonged pressure.
Symptoms:
- Pain and swelling at the back of the elbow
- Tenderness and warmth around the area
- Limited range of motion
Causes:
- Repetitive activities (e.g., leaning on the elbow)
- Trauma or injury
- Infections or medical conditions like gout
Treatment:
- Rest and avoid putting pressure on the elbow
- Apply ice to reduce swelling
- Anti-inflammatory medications
- In severe or resistant cases- Visit your orthopedic surgeon for drainage of fluid.
- If it’s recurring and large size then you might need a surgical procedure called bursectomy
Prevention:
- Use elbow pads during activities
- Avoid prolonged pressure on the elbow
- Maintain good joint health with regular exercise
