Gender bias in medicine isn’t a new debate:

This latest editorial in the Indian Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery shows how little the needle has moved. From centuries of philosophical prejudice to modern data showing higher mortality in women after major heart surgery, the message is clear: the problem isn’t biology alone, it’s mindset.

We need research that treats gender as a real variable, fair career pathways for women doctors, and policies that support shared family responsibilities. Real change will come only when we stop seeing women as “other” and start seeing them as equal partners in science, leadership and care.

Dr Yadava highlights the importance of allowing medicine to function without political influence so trust, innovation and patient care can thrive. In his recent editorial he reminds us that healthcare works best when guided by evidence, expertise and professional judgment. When decisions lean on popularity instead of data, the quality of care can be affected. It’s a gentle reminder that science is most effective when experts are allowed to lead.
