Probiotics and Prebiotics: What's the Difference?

Probiotics and prebiotics are both pretty big topics in nutrition these days. Yet even though they sound similar, the two play different roles in your health.

Probiotics are beneficial bacteria, and prebiotics are food for these bacteria. We'll explain what you need to know about the two.

What are probiotics and prebiotics? Both prebiotics and probiotics are important for human health. However, they have different roles:

Probiotics. These are live bacteria found in certain foods or supplements. They can provide numerous health benefits. Prebiotics. These substances come from types of carbs (mostly fiber) that humans can't digest. The beneficial bacteria in your gut eat this fiber.

The gut bacteria, collectively referred to as the gut flora, or gut microbiota, perform many important functions in the body.

Eating balanced amounts of both probiotics and prebiotics can help ensure that you have the right balance of these bacteria to keep your gut microbiota healthy. Prebiotics are types of fiber that feed the friendly bacteria in the digestive system.

Probiotics: Living strains of bacteria that add to the population of good bacteria in your digestive system. Prebiotics: Specialized plant fiber that acts as food for the good bacteria. This stimulates growth among the preexisting good bacteria. How to Get the Most Out of Them

Before you start taking prebiotics and probiotics, there are a few things you should keep in mind to make sure they're as effective as they could be. Make sure your probiotics are kept cold in the refrigerator - heat can kill them. They're living organisms after all! You don't have to worry about this with prebiotics.

The right plant-based foods can be excellent sources of protein and other nutrients, often with fewer calories than animal products.
Some plant products, such as soybeans and tofu are complete proteins, which means that they contain all nine essential amino acids that humans need. Others are missing some of these amino acids, so eating a varied diet is important.

The following healthful, plant-based foods have a high-protein content per serving:

"3 HABITS THAT CAN REVERSE YOUR PCOS"

👉 Exercising at least 3 days/ week for 45 min - Women with PCOS experience higher rates of insulin resistance. insulin resistance affects your body's ability to use blood sugar for energy. This results in low energy, fatigue, weight gain. Hence PCOS friendly workouts are recommended for everyone. All you need is 45min/day, 3days/week.

👉Eating a balanced meal & not skipping meals - Eating a balanced meal that includes protein, fiber, carbs, good fats are very important. including food such as pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, flax seed, eggs etc. will help you with regular periods, decreased mood swings, cravings and weight loss. And also, don't skip meals. skipping meals will results in overeating/binge eating and weight gain.

👉 Spend 10 min in the sunlight every day - Women with PCOS are more likely to be deficient in vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency can cause several fertility problems. There is much deeper correlation between vitamin D and insulin resistance in women with POCS.

Eating food may sound very simple in itself but it's the simple mistakes we make that make a huge difference. It is important to know that when it comes to eating, the timing of meals is the key. Keeping a consistent meal schedule from day to day is linked to weight loss, an increase in energy, and a reduction in metabolic risk factors for chronic disease.
