Unfortunately , DGHS India seems to be either confused or under false impression by some societal organization, regarding "who is an intensivist" and 'who can work in ICU' / ICU workforce ...... for larger benefit of the society , this kind of misleading guideline should be withdrawn at once and revised after consultation of all concerned authorities

DM/ DrNB in
- Cardiology = Cardiologist ( NOT those having unrecognized certificate courses)

- Endocrinology = Endocrinologist ( NOT those who r only diabetologists after passing some unrecognized certificate course )

- Neurology = Neurologist
- Nephrology= Nephrologist
- Gastroenterology = Gastroenterologist ( though , endoscopy is performed by many including surgeons)

MD/DNB Radiology = Radiologist ( Not those who claim to be only sonologist)

similary , DM/ DrNB or previously FNB in Critical Care Medicine are to be considered as INTENSIVIST / CRITICAL CARE SPECIALIST.
There should not be any confusions regarding this.

FICCS is the newly formed and only official forum of NMC certified Intensivists / Critical Care Specialists ( DM/DrNB/ FNB) in India ....

Like other specialties in the beginning, Our senior teachers who have trained us are for obvious reasons considered as dedicated Intensivists .

We are here only to establish and fight for our rights of being certified intensivists and NOT AGIANST any existing societal organizations/ individuals.

Presently , in India , Only DM / DrNB/ FNB critical care medicine are the only NMC Accredited Super specialization in critical care medicine / intensive care medicine.
However, there are also prevailing multiple short-cuts / unregulated courses of 1/2 yr duration , which are NOT RECOGNIZED by NMC but being show-cased by the candidates as superspecialized degrees which is actually NOT true. And , by virtue of this people are getting good jobs in critical care medicine departments across various Govt/ private institutions denying the rights / politicizing the scopes of NMC accredited candidates .

Obviously, if u dont have to go through the hardest ordeal of attempting NEET-SS / INI SS , doing hard-core residency of 3years and then pass well-executed & regulated exam process , while u can brag easy job opportunity by just passing your time for 1 year in an institute without any specified entry, residency, research activity ... why would you at all opt for a superspeciality degree which is so hard earned ?????????????

11/06/2024

Critical care medicine (CCM) or Intensive care medicine is a super-specialty medical field concerned with patients who have sustained or are at risk of sustaining acutely life-threatening organ(s) failure due to disease or injury.
The intensive care unit (ICU) is a specially staffed and equipped section of the hospital for the management of life-threatening or potentially life-threatening conditions, with expertise and facilities for organ support (e.g., ventilators, multipara monitors, dialysis, etc.) by medical, nursing and other experienced staff.
An intensivist or an ICU specialist is a medical professional trained in intensive or critical care medicine.
CCM involves the assessment, resuscitation and ongoing management of critically ill patients with life- threatening single and multiple organ system failure.
Critical Care Medicine was recognized as a super specialty by the MCI only in 2012
And there are very few recognized DM seats available at Present.
The gap in the workforce is somewhat compensated presently by the trainees undergoing courses overseen by various professional societies and organizations but some ICUs are still managed by a workforce with no or little formal training.
National board of Examination also started Three Year Super Specialty course DrNB CCM in Private sector Hospitals to Overcome Shortage of experienced and Qualified Intensivist in 2019.
