L&T Chairman SN Subrahmanyan's recent statement about working 90 hours a week, including Sundays, highlights a mindset that has become increasingly normalized in today's work culture.

While we all know that such unrealistic standards and the constant hustle can significantly affect our mental health, many of us still get caught up in this cycle.

Here are a few strategies to help us cope with the pressures of such a work culture:

1. Reframe what success means to us 🏆

Consider a broader and balanced view of success that moves beyond career or financial goals and includes personal well-being, relationships, and growth in other areas of life

2. Foster a growth mindset around downtime 🛌

Seeing breaks and rest not as wasted time but vital for re charging and enhancing productivity. Rethink it as an investment to reduce the guilt that comes with taking time away from work

3. Align work goals with our values 🌿

When we truly understand what matters to us, it becomes easier to say 'no' to overwork and focus on meaningful fulfilling tasks

4. Celebrate small wins 🎉

It helps us feel validated and motivated, reducing the tendency to keep working excessively for getting validation from external sources and it also helps us survive in a harsh critical work environment

5. Set small and manageable boundaries 🫸

Setting clear cut boundaries can be risky but we can start small such as try establishing a non-negotiable lunch break or make time to disconnect after work hours even if it is just for an hour

6. Leverage our support network 🫂

Reach out to colleagues/mentors/friends to share the load or offer guidance or vent out

7. Practice stress relief techniques 🧘‍♂️

Such as breathing exercises, stretching, or a short walk. This can help you manage stress without needing to take extensive time away from work

8. Seek professional support 👤

Connecting with a therapist will provide tools to cope with stress better and set healthier boundaries

Let's not let the grind rob us of our happiness! 🤍
