Psoriasis OR Kitibha
Psoriasis is a skin problem which presents suddenly without any known cause to the patient. In the early phase, when patient came to know about this embracing skin problem, gets lots of anxiety, which further increases when patient got no satisfactory relief even with best efforts. Psoriasis is a papulosquamous disease which represents with dry, raised, rough, reddish colour skin having silver white scaling, when scaling is removed from the skin, there are fine red dots of blood oozing out (Auspitz sign).
In Ayurveda, psoriasis resembles best with the description of KITIBHA, a skin disease described by Maharishi Charak, which is caused by the vitiation of Vata & Kapha Dosha ( Body Humors). However all the three dosha plays significant role in the progression of the disease, so assessment of Prakriti and doshas is very important.
KITIBHA is caused by the intake of mutually contradictory foods like unctuous & heavy, hot & cold, fish & milk or milk products etc, sedentary life style with frequent climate change, stress or may be a allergic reaction to any drug.
Due to ill health and favorable conditions it may spread rapidly but sometimes may remain in its initial stage for several years.Psoriasis typically occurs on the knees, elbows, and scalp, torso, palms, in folds of skin and soles of the feet but in some cases may involve the whole body.
Spreading of disease is not contagious but people maintain a certain space from the sufrer, which gives a psychological trauma to the patient.
Disease also runs in the family and may have hereditary involvement. Other main causes involve the malfunctioning of the immune system. When a trigger factor causes the certain cells to behave as if they are fighting an infection or healing a wound. They produce chemicals that causes inflammation. In psoriasis, this leads to an excessive growth of skin cells and inflammation.
Psoriasis are of different types ie, chronic plaque psoriasis, Guttate, Pustular, Erythodermic and Nail Psoriasis.
In other systems of medicine there is no known permanent cure for psoriasis. Even
