A Sunday well spent, and hearts well connected.

Our annual Community Health Camp, organized in collaboration with the Senior Citizens Welfare Association, was once again a meaningful day dedicated to the well-being of our elders.

From orthopedic, internal medicine, and urology consultations to vitals checkups, blood sugar tests, and ECG, camp offered a comprehensive health check up — right at the heart of the community.

A special highlight of the day was an engaging session on Healthy Living by Dr. Paras Kangwal, reminding us all that good health begins with small, conscious choices.

That stubborn cough and sticky phlegm you keep ignoring? They’re not just annoying symptoms—they’re your body talking.

In this episode, Dr. Subhadeep, Pulmonologist at East Delhi Medical Centre, explains what’s really going on inside your respiratory system when you cough and produce phlegm.

It usually starts when something foreign enters your airway—like dust, pollution, allergens, or an infection. In response, your body activates its natural defense system.

The airway lining becomes inflamed
Mucus glands work overtime to trap the irritants. The body generates phlegm to flush it out
Coughing acts as a reflex to clear the airways

Sometimes, the trigger could be an allergy, sometimes an infection, and sometimes just environmental irritants—but the process remains your body’s way of protecting your lungs.

Not all coughs are the same—and neither is phlegm. The colour, thickness, and frequency can tell us a lot about what’s going on.

EDMC Lung Health Series | Episode 3

COPD doesn’t happen overnight—it progresses in stages. And knowing which stage you’re in can make all the difference in how it’s treated and managed.

In this episode, Dr. Subhadeep from East Delhi Medical Centre breaks down the 4 stages of COPD, helping patients understand the severity of their condition and what steps they need to take next.

Here’s a quick overview:

Stage 1 – Mild:
You may notice a chronic cough or occasional shortness of breath. It’s easy to ignore—but this is when early diagnosis and quitting smoking can make the biggest difference.

Stage 2 – Moderate:
Breathlessness becomes more noticeable during activity. You may need medications like bronchodilators, and it’s time for regular checkups and lifestyle changes.

Stage 3 – Severe:
Lung function is significantly reduced. Symptoms start affecting daily life—fatigue, flare-ups, and hospital visits become more common. Inhalers, oxygen therapy, and rehab are often introduced.

Stage 4 – Very Severe:
Also called End-Stage COPD. Oxygen levels may drop dangerously low. Simple activities like walking or speaking may become exhausting. But with proper care and support, even this stage can be managed with dignity and quality of life.

COPD is a progressive disease—but it’s not a hopeless one.
Understanding your stage is the first step to controlling it.
