The fight response isn’t just about anger. It’s your nervous system’s way of saying: “If I get loud, sharp, or strong enough — maybe I’ll stay safe.”

In therapy, we often see fight parts being misunderstood as “aggressive” or “toxic.” but really, they’re bodyguards. Parts that believe if they keep you armored, no one can hurt you again.

The trouble is, sometimes that armor shows up in the wrong places — snapping at loved ones, burning out your body, or arguing when what you actually need is care.

The work isn’t to get rid of your fight part. It’s to thank it, understand what it’s protecting, and then let your calmer self lead.
