3 ways to clean ( )

-- Dish soap+water: Works wonders for eyeglasses. Mix them together in equal quantities and slather some on your lenses and wipe away the dirt and grime from your frames as well.

-- Lukewarm water: Rinse your spectacles under a stream of lukewarm water and gently rub the lenses using a soft cotton cloth or let it stay for a while until the water airs out naturally.

-- Removing smudges and fingerprints from oily hands can be pretty annoying, so that you can either resort to the above options or just grab a packet of baby wipes and clean them. And don't forget to clean the nose pad too.

New tunable smart developed

Scientists have developed smart glasses with liquid-based lenses that flex to refocus on whatever the wearer is viewing.
The glasses, developed by researchers at the University of Utah, are designed to mimic the behaviour of the eyes natural lens - flexing to focus on wherever an individual is looking: near, far or in-between.

Unfortunately for many of us, as we age our lenses become stiffer and lose the ability to bend enough to focus at different distances.

Standard glasses compensate for the bend our ageing eyes can no longer achieve to focus.

This becomes more complicated if we are unable to focus at multiple distances, which necessitates glasses with multiple lenses for different distances, such as bifocals, trifocals or progressive lenses, which must be regularly replaced as our eyesight changes.

The central technology of the glasses created by the research team are lenses made of glycerin, a clear thick liquid sandwiched between flexible membranes.
The lenses are mounted into frames that have an electromechanical system that causes the membranes to bend to adjust their focus. The ability of the lens to flex and bend allows the single lens to act like multiple lenses.

Number of blind to come down by 4m as India set to change blindness definition

The government is set to change a four-decade-old definition of blindness to bring it in line with the WHO criteria and ensure the Indian data on blindness meets the global estimates. The change in definition will bring down the number of blind persons by 4 million in India.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines blindness as visual sharpness of less than 3/60, or a corresponding visual field loss to less than 10 degrees in the better eye, even with the best possible spectacle correction.

The National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB) in India, on the other hand, defines blindness as vision of 6/60 or less and a visual field loss of 20 degrees or less in the better eye, after spectacle correction.

India projects a higher number of blind people at international forums because of its definition. India currently has around 12 million blind people against 39 million globally --...
