The psychic burden of anxiety is offset by the gains in self-knowledge it affords; to experience anxiety is to experience our self in the making. To allow ourselves to experience anxiety is to engage in a self-observation sensitive to one’s deepest affective responses, alert to the shapelessness of our lives – and our responsibility for mapping our lives anew at every step.

My anxiety has been lifelong but I would not wish it away. It has made me the philosopher – and person – that I am today

Our Vision

Antaraal signifies a break in time and a space for pause, an interlude in the various acts of life in transition. Antaraal can be a moment of relief that one arrives at or a rupture which can set off deep-seated terrors and anxieties.
In a relentlessly continuous life, a pause sometimes becomes a space for reflection while at others an experience of affliction. Emotional distress can be experienced as an overwhelming interruption which needs an engagement that can enable its communication.

In our understanding, Antaraal also connotes a cusp where we often find ourselves in between different emotional states. We all experience the chaos these states create within us. However, due to the stigma around psychological distress, one finds it difficult to attend to it and seek help for the same. This often leads to frustration, shame, isolation and creates conflicts in relationships as well as work. Unable to take a pause, we retain our functionality at the cost of our well-being. This kind of suffering hides in plain sight and is easy to miss in oneself and others. It needs a sincere attempt at engagement and the possibility of healing lies in being able to hear the turmoil inside, in someone's presence. Psychotherapy is a process which combines the elements of listening as well as experiencing that can help in uncovering, recovering and recreating meaning. Through a non-judgmental environment, the psychotherapist creates a collaborative space to facilitate this process with an understanding that it unfolds at its own pace.

With this ethic in mind, Antaraal: A Space for Psychotherapy and Counselling attempts to give a place to that which is within, but difficult to communicate. This process finds resonance in the Japanese art form called Kintsugi. "It treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. Not only is there no attempt to hide the damage, but the repair is literally illuminated."

About Antaraal

Antaraal is a collaborative effort of three psychoanalytically oriented psychologists. We offer psychotherapeutic services to individuals, couples, families as well as children.

We work with people going through psychological distress of various kinds including depression, anxiety, relationship conflicts, self-destructive patterns, obsessive thoughts, suicidal thoughts, loss and trauma. We also work with different age groups including children and adolescents grappling with academic stress, social anxiety, peer pressure, body image issues, disturbed eating and sleeping patterns, substance abuse, aggression and self-harm.

We explore the options of both short and long-term psychotherapy. The duration and frequency of which will be dependent on and is mutually decided by both the patient and the therapist, based on the nature and intensity of the presenting distress. Each session would be 50 minutes long. Our full standard consultation fee is Rs. 1500. We also offer a sliding fee structure in certain circumstance which could be negotiated between the patient and the therapist for the subsequent sessions. A conversation around reduced fee can happen during the consultations.

After we receive your form, we will send you a confirmation mail about the availability of slots, shortly. The assigned therapist would get in touch with you to set up the meeting. In case a slot is not immediately available, you will put on a waitlist and be informed of the same.
