The Postal Department Released a Special Cover to Mark the 15th Anniversary of SWASTIVACHANAM on Sanskrit Day
To commemorate the 15th anniversary of SWASTIVACHANAM—a distinguished organisation dedicated to the promotion of Sanskrit journalism, Yoga, Ayurveda, Vastu Shastra, Indology and Indian Knowledge Systems—the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India, today released a Special Cover with Cancellation on the occasion of Sanskrit Day at the Philatelic Bureau, Sansad Marg Head Post Office, New Delhi.
The Chief Guest for the event was Prof. Shrinivasa Varakhedi, Vice Chancellor, Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi, under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. In his address, Prof. Varakhedi stated: “Sanskrit is a language for everyone, transcending all boundaries. The youth associated with it are excelling in academics, innovation, and technology, becoming true torchbearers and ambassadors of our heritage. SWASTIVACHANAM has, over the last fifteen years, made exemplary contributions to promoting Sanskrit journalism, Yoga, Ayurveda, Vastu Shastra, Indology, and the broader Indian Knowledge Systems. It is also heartening that the organisation is observing the centenary of its founder, the eminent Sanskrit scholar Late Shri Dinesh Chandra Joshi, with a year-long tribute to his lifelong commitment to the cause of Sanskrit.”
The Special Cover released on this occasion artistically depicts the awakening of consciousness through the elevation of the seven chakras, alongside the four Mahavakyas of the Vedas representing the Advaita philosophy—Pragyanam Brahma, Aham Brahma Asmi, Tat Tvam Asi, and Ayam Atma Brahma. The outer design features the traditional Aipan art of Uttarakhand, honouring the native land of SWASTIVACHANAM’s founder.
Prof. Shiv Shankar Mishra, Vice Chancellor, Maharshi Panini Sanskrit Evam Vedic Vishwavidyalaya, Ujjain, Government of Madhya Pradesh, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. He remarked: “The youth of our society are carrying forward our culture, scriptures, and heritage to the world stage. It is a proud moment for all of us that a voluntary organisation like SWASTIVACHANAM is advancing the vision of its founder, Late Shri Dinesh Chandra Joshi, by promoting the Indian Knowledge Systems. I am deeply impressed by how the organisation fosters meaningful dialogue, collaboration, and research between Sanskrit scholars from the East and the West—be it in unveiling the wisdom preserved in manuscripts or in showcasing the grandeur of architectural systems described in Sanskrit scriptures.”
Speaking on behalf of the Department of Posts, Virendra Singh, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, New Delhi Central Division, highlighted the significance of Sanskrit Day. He encouraged students to learn Sanskrit and help popularise the timeless scriptures, which hold immense wisdom for leading a disciplined and meaningful life.
Harish Chandra Joshi, Trustee of SWASTIVACHANAM, said: “Sanskrit is the soul of India, and through Sanskrit we ignite every state, culture, and way of life. Sanskrit is a language of the modern era as much as it is of ancient wisdom. We are truly committed to uplifting the stature of traditional Sanskrit study centres, schools, and gurukuls, while preserving and conserving manuscripts that are a treasure trove of our great civilisation. Our mission is to bring together both Western and traditional Sanskrit scholars on the same platform, so that the profound and concrete essence of Sanskrit scriptures can reach the world for the benefit of all, fostering peace and prosperity. We are also working towards developing and supporting Sanskrit villages, beginning in Uttarakhand, in remembrance of SWASTIVACHANAM’s founder and revered saint, Late Shri Dinesh Chandra Joshi. His centenary, which we are celebrating today, will be marked by a year-long series of Sanskrit academic activities in various educational institutions across India and Nepal.”
The event was attended by Sanskrit students, scholars, and officials from the Department of Posts, creating a vibrant atmosphere of cultural pride and scholarly inspiration.
