Strengthening NCD Care in Urban Slum Settings: Community Perspectives

We are delighted to share that the Foundation of Healthcare Technologies Society (FHTS) has successfully concluded Phase 1 of the ICMR-funded project entitled “Evaluating the Impact of Digital Intervention versus the WHO PEN Approach in Non-Communicable Disease Prevention and Control in Resource-Limited Settings: A Quasi-Experimental Study”.
https://lnkd.in/gturumy5

The study is being implemented across four geographically and socio-culturally diverse urban slum settings (Delhi, Dehradun, Sikkim, and Chennai), where the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are increasing due to limited resources, lack of awareness and accessibility of healthcare services.

Phase 1 of the study was designed to better understand the situation and challenging living conditions in resource-limited urban slum communities.

We conducted Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), In-Depth Interviews (IDIs), and Knowledge, Attitude, Practice (KAP) surveys to better understand community awareness, behaviour, challenges, and needs related to hypertension, diabetes, and other NCDs.

These findings will help to design a personalized, human-centered digital tool that directly addresses community needs and helps individuals to better understand and self-manage their health conditions.

The study is guided by the SMAART Informatics Framework developed by Dr. Ashish Joshi, PhD,MBBS,MPH
