We visited India Gate today and it brought back memories for my mum who grew up in Delhi. My maternal grandfather was the deputy secretary for the ministry of finance, so their family would get special passes for the government celebrations held at this majestic monument. As we walked the lawns today still decorated for Republic Day, she reminisced about the picnics and the parades of years past.

India Gate, a 42-meter-high war memorial commemorates over 70,000 Indian soldiers who died in World War I Located on the ceremonial axis, it features 13,313 names inscribed on its walls and houses the Amar Jawan Jyoti, an eternal flame honoring soldiers.

Integrative medicine is not separate from conventional medicine. We train those who are a part of the healthcare system from our Center that sits at the heart of a medical school campus at an R1 institution.

It js an integration.
An evolution of medicine.

Integrative medicine brings healing-forward, evidence-informed approaches from traditional whole systems of healing, lifestyle medicine, preventive medicine, root cause approaches, mind-body medicine, botanical and dietary supplements, nutrition, environmental medicine, and cutting-edge research to clinics, hospitals, and academic medical institutions.

In every specialty, integrative medicine transforms patient outcome and practitioner experience.

Even though fats are complicated, eating a fat-free diet is not good for your health. We need fats to survive.

Every cell is made of fat; our nerve coverings are made of fat; our brain is mostly fat; our hormones are made of fat; our cells and metabolism run better on fat. Fats help you absorb all of the beneficial fat-soluble vitamins in plant foods, and some fats have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity.

Don’t fear fat; instead, eat the right fats with every meal. Fat won’t make you fat, unless you eat it with starch and sugar like most Americans.

Eat 3 to 5 servings of fat per day, and eat fats mostly with vegetables.

Unless it is trans fat, it won’t cause heart disease.

My favorite fats are avocados, olives, nuts and seeds, and traditional oils like extra virgin olive oil and avocado oil. Small amounts of butter, grass-fed ghee, and coconut or MCT oil are fine for most.

If you’re eating a high-fat diet and are curious about how it’s affecting your body, I recommend looking into the NMR particle-size cholesterol test.

I’ve been looking up at so many exquisite ceilings and monuments on my trip, I thought I’d share a few.

Happy International Integrative Health Day! Sharing an episode from SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital The Glennon Factor podcast where I was honored to be invited to share a journey that a family and I took through pediatric integrative care at our pediatric integrative medicine office!

I’m approaching thirty years in clinical practice and almost fifteen years of changing direction from an allopathic approach to a fully integrative approach to pediatric health care. I’m so grateful to teach, learn and advocate for this evidence-informed, whole-person, personalized health care, today and everyday.

Gandhi Smriti is the sacred place where Mahatma Gandhi passed away on 30 January 1948 in New Delhi, India.

The World Peace Gong was gifted to the Gandhi Smriti after being received from the World Peace Gong Committee of Indonesia to commemorate 100 years since the beginning of the Satyagraha (non-violent resistance) movement by Mahatma Gandhi.

I was moved by this sacred sanctuary, a gentle reminder to me of the enormous struggle that continues by peace marchers across the world, so that we may all live in harmony with one another. I felt deeply honored to tread hallowed ground and absorb the history and the legacy.
