Historic First in the U.S.!
Surgeons at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, Houston have performed the first fully robotic heart transplant in the United States. Led by Dr. Kenneth Liao, the team used small robotic-assisted incisions—no chest opening or breastbone cutting—to remove the diseased heart and implant the donor organ.
This minimally invasive approach reduces trauma, lowers infection risk, and speeds recovery. The patient, a 45-year-old with advanced heart failure, was discharged just one month after surgery with no complications.
This breakthrough sets a new standard in heart transplant surgery, offering hope for faster, safer recoveries.
