Dr. Prem is the Founder of the Department of Geriatric Medicine at Jaslok Hospital, the first of its kind in South Mumbai, and the initiator of Mumbai’s first support group for older adults. As a Founding Member of The Wisdom Club, he champions the principle of continuum of care in Geriatric Medicine—Acceptability, Availability & Affordability—bringing clinical excellence together with community-centered impact.

He is the Founder of the Department of Geriatric Medicine at Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre—the first of its kind in South Mumbai—and has been instrumental in advancing structured geriatric care within hospital settings.
He also initiated Mumbai’s first-ever support group for older adults, reinforcing the importance of holistic, community-oriented elder care. As a Founding Member of The Wisdom Club, Dr. Prem strongly advocates for a continuum of care approach in geriatric medicine, centred on Acceptability, Availability, and Affordability.

I’m pleased to share a glimpse from our Global Expert Session on “Senior Living - China Versus Indian Aged Care,” featuring Jim Biggs, CDO, Momentum Senior Living (USA), and Adjunct Lecturer at the USC Davis School of Gerontology.

With over 37 years of experience across the USA and China, Jim has led the development, turnaround, and management of senior housing, assisted living, memory care, and CCRCs. As Co-founder and CEO of West Bay Senior Living and Momentum Senior Living, his current focus is on business development and global strategy in senior living.

In this session, we explored how China’s large-scale, system-driven senior living models compare with India’s rapidly evolving aged care landscape - highlighting differences in policy, financing, cultural expectations, operational scale, and opportunities for innovation.

I’m pleased to share a glimpse from our Global Expert Session on “Seizure Risk in Dementia,” featuring Russ Barker (USA), Doctor of Health Sciences candidate, Founder of Seagull Health, and Creator of SeizureSafe.

Russ Barker, MHA, DHSc(c), is a healthcare leader specialising in clinical nutrition and neurological safety in dementia care. His doctoral dissertation, “Seizure Risk in Dementia: A Systematic Review of Current Evidence and Recommendations for Future Clinical Research in Senior Living Facilities,” examines how seizure-related neurological events are frequently misclassified as falls, confusion, or behavioural changes—leading to missed diagnoses and preventable harm.

Through his work with Seagull Health, Russ focuses on early recognition, structured risk assessment, accurate documentation, and prevention of hidden neurological events in senior living and dementia care settings. His work brings much-needed clinical rigour and safety frameworks to an often-overlooked area of senior care, reinforcing the importance of neurological awareness in protecting dignity, safety, and outcomes for older adults. 🌍💙

It was a privilege to co-host this insightful conversation with Pankaj Mehrotra, Founder of Elderly Care India, and explore why recognising and addressing seizure risk must be central to safe, ethical, and future-ready dementia care.
