Sepalika

Sepalika Sepalika is an online holistic health clinic where we believe in helping you move from chronic issues to vibrant health, naturally.

Headquartered in Mumbai & Delhi, Sepalika was launched in March 2016 by Sharda Agarwal and Mahesh Jayaraman. The inspiration for setting up Sepalika came from Sharda’s personal experience of suffering from migraine for eight long years. She consulted several specialists and conducted a few tests but in vain. Apart from suffering from serious side effects by consuming the prescribed medications, th

ere was no improvement in her condition. This is when Sharda met Mahesh, a traditional acupressure therapist and health counselor, who helped her get rid of the pulsating headaches of migraine in just four months. This prompted Sharda to set up Sepalika along with Mahesh, to help people cut down their dependence on medicines and counter their illnesses through the right diet, supplements, and lifestyle interventions. The platform bears a Sinhalese name, ‘Sepalika’, meaning the Night Jasmine. The small white flowers are anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and anti-viral and alleviate pain and inflammation. The name reflects the healing power of nature in treating various illnesses.

Polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that can affect a person's metabolism and can lead to various health issues, including insulin resistance.

While there is no specific "one-size-fits-all" PCOS diet, some dietary recommendations can help manage symptoms and promote overall health.

It's important to note that the dietary needs of individuals with PCOS can vary, so it's advisable to work with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian to create a personalized plan.

Did you know?

If a woman has fewer than eight menstrual periods a year on a chronic basis, she probably has a 50-80% chance of having PCOS based on that single observation.

But if she has infrequent menstruation and she has elevated androgen levels such as testosterone in the blood, then she has a greater than 90% chance of having the condition.

What does your period blood colour indicate?

🖤 Black - Typically indicates the beginning or end of your period, or it may be due to a va**nal blockage. However, if accompanied by smelly discharge, itching, or difficulty urinating, it could indicate a problem. If these symptoms are absent, it is likely just older blood that has not yet been expelled.

🤎 Dark red or brown - While brown or dark red period blood can be an early sign of pregnancy (referred to as "implantation bleeding"), it is also common at the start or end of your period. It is important to distinguish between the two situations.

❤️ Bright red - Bright red period blood usually indicates that it is relatively fresh and indicates a steady flow. In rare cases, bright red period flow may be a sign of cervical cancer, but this would be accompanied by other symptoms such as heavier periods, smelly va**nal discharge, loss of appetite, and weight loss.

🧡 Orange - Usually indicates a combination of period blood and cervical fluid, but it may also suggest a possible infection.

💗 Pink - Pink period blood may occur just before the onset or as it is ending, typically due to a mixture of period blood and cervical fluid. It can also be caused by factors like weight loss, an unhealthy diet, or an underlying condition such as anemia. If you are on contraceptive pills, it could also explain a pink period.

🩶 Grey - Grey period blood is usually a sign of bacterial vaginosis, which occurs when there is an imbalance in the bacteria in the va**na.

‼️NOTE: It's important to note that the color of period blood can vary throughout your menstrual cycle or from one period to another. These color changes are generally considered normal and nothing to worry about, except if your flow is grey, orange, or has an unpleasant odor - in such cases, it is advisable to seek help!

"The terms PCOS and PCOD are often used interchangeably. Both PCOS and PCOD both refer to a hormonal disorder that affects the ovaries.

PCOS or Polycystic O***y Syndrome is a more commonly used term internationally. It is a condition where a woman has increased levels of androgens or male hormones. PCOS is diagnosed based on a combination of symptoms: irregular or absent periods, excess hair growth, acne, and presence of multiple cysts on ovaries.

PCOD or Polycystic O***y Disease is a term more frequently used in India. Many doctors, when they tell a lady she has PCOD, refer specifically to the presence of multiple cysts on the ovaries which they find via an ultrasound. Doctors may or may not include the broader diagnostic symptoms of PCOS that I mentioned earlier.

So, PCOS is a more comprehensive term that includes both hormonal and metabolic aspects of the condition, while PCOD typically refers to the ultrasound findings of cysts on ovaries.
