HAVING BEING DIAGNOSED WITH ENLARGED PROSTATE?

The mere diagnosis of an enlarged prostate does not mean that you need to go under the knife.

In fact majority people with an enlarged prostate might not even have any symptoms. It is heartening to note that of all the patients experiencing urinary issues due to enlarged prostate, around 70 to 80% of them will do fine with medicines and will continue to do so throughout their life time.

The beer acts as a diuretic and increases the production of urine. We surgeons often rely on radiological investigations and their results for obtaining a diagnosis which subsequently aids in the better surgical management of the patients.

Some of these tests including RGU/AUG which aid in the diagnosis of urethral stricture are better if performed by the operating surgeon himself as the surgeon can know about the disease process in a better way.

Another advantage of urologist doing the test himself is that he knows at what pressure the dye being used in the test needs to be injected.

This post is aimed to highlight what happens when these special tests are performed by not so experienced people. Dye that was meant to be injected at ease and slowly in the urethra has been injected with a brutal force. As a result of the same , the dye has outlined not only the area of interest (that is urethra) but also has filled the pelvic veins which is a catastrophe.

Cysts in the kidneys are not uncommon entity. Most of the people are alarmed when they get to know that they have cysts in their kidneys.

These cysts are detected during an ultrasound being done for some other reason.

The patients feel that the pain in their tummy is because of the cysts in the kidney and they urge their urologists t o remove the cysts surgically .

However, the patients do not know that the pain in most circumstances is not due to these cysts and operating upon them is not necessary in most if not all situations.

The only situations in which these cysts are harmful is if they grow to an alarming size at an alarming rate, they rupture, if there is a suspicion of cancer in them or if they are part of polycystic syndrome in the kidneys when they can lead to kidney failure.

In most of the situations these cysts are indolent and the patients need not panick .There is no medicine that can dissolve or cause a reduction in the size of these cysts.

Drinking plenty of water does not necessarily always mean that this has to around 4 to 5 litres daily and one has to maintain a balance between the total fluid consumption and the total urine output

This depends on a multitide of factors like the profession we are in , any exisiting cardiac or kidney ailment or the ambient conditions in which we work
