We are pleased to share the first microdocumentary on Community Engagement and Involvement (CEI) from the NIHR Global Health Research Centre for Multiple Long-Term Conditions.
The microdocumentary brings together lived-experience voices, frontline perspectives and partner reflections to show how CEI shapes research and people-centred care, busts myths and improves treatment outcomes through empowerment and shared decision making. It reflects the principles of NIHR in CEI and the CEI Strategy, as well as the operationalization of the WHO Framework for Meaningful Engagement.
The microdocumentary explores:
• How meaningful engagement and community championship supports research that reflects real needs and local contexts
• How people living with MLTCs influence what better care should look like
• Co-creating solution to overcome the everyday challenges, beliefs, myths, and barriers that shape better health seeking behaviours
• How NIHR-supported efforts are helping communities participate, co-design and lead as equal partners.
• Alignment with MoHFW’s programme’s operational guidelines, reinforcing national efforts to prioritise community participation, strengthen continuum of care, and improve people-centred approaches in NCD and MLTC management.
The microdocumentary highlights a simple idea: research is stronger and treatment for management of NCD and MLTCs is more efficient when people are involved early, consistently and respectfully, with space for their perspectives to guide decisions.
Watch the full microdocumentary to see how CEI is helping re-imagine health research and motivating people to take ownership of their health and strengthening the response to MLTCs across India and Nepal.
