The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Deoghar has formally initiated Radiotherapy services, marking a major milestone in the Institute’s journey toward providing comprehensive cancer care. With this development, AIIMS Deoghar becomes a key referral centre for Radiation therapy treatment in Jharkhand and neighbouring states.
Radiotherapy is a vital component of cancer management and is used in the treatment of a wide range of malignancies including cancers of the head and neck, breast, lung, cervix, brain, and other solid tumours. The newly commissioned facility is equipped with advanced, state-of-the-art technology (High Energy Linear Accelerator; Elekta Versa HD) designed to deliver precise radiation treatment while ensuring maximum safety and minimal side effects for patients. Further expansion of radiotherapy services is planned, with the commissioning of an additional Linear Accelerator (Varian TrueBeam under ONGC CSR support) and the introduction of brachytherapy services in the near future.
Until now, many cancer patients from Jharkhand, Bihar, and parts of West Bengal were compelled to travel long distances to access radiotherapy, often facing delays, financial strain, and physical hardship. The availability of radiotherapy at AIIMS Deoghar will significantly reduce this burden and ensure timely, affordable, and high-quality Radiation treatment closer to home.
This achievement reflects AIIMS Deoghar’s continued commitment to strengthening tertiary healthcare infrastructure and improving cancer outcomes for the people of the region.
