A 45-year-old painter, who lost both his hands in a train accident in 2020, underwent a successful hand transplant at Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi on March 6, 2024 . The transplanted arms were taken from a woman named Meena Mehta, who's brain was declared dead and she pledged to donate organs in her lifetime. The surgery took more than 12 hours, connecting the arteries, muscles, tendons and nerves between the donor's hands and the patient's arms. The patient made a complete recovery. He was then discharged from the hospital on March 7, 2024.
