Kay :-) Reiki is one of the most popular energy-healing systems in the world. It was founded in Japan in the early 20th century, by a man named Mikao Usui. It has both an Eastern and Western lineage; I have both lineages. What does Reiki do? What are the benefits? Reiki works holistically and
therefore on all levels: physical; emotional; psychological and spiritual. For example, it can help boost immunity, help relieve stress/anxiety/sleep problems, support traditional medical treatments as well as working on physical issues. What can I expect from a treatment? Most people tend to have a deeply relaxing almost meditative experience. People often describe a release of stress or anxiety and a general sense of wellbeing. The experience is different for everyone and no two treatments are the same, for some the experience is very subtle but...
You may feel heat/cold/tingling sensations. You could see colours/patterns/visions. You may feel relief from physical pain or experience a release of emotions. Sometimes the effect of Reiki is dramatic, and at other times more subtle and noticed only a while after. Who can have Reiki? Reiki is safe for everyone, including children, babies, the elderly, during pregnancy, or when undergoing medical treatment. What is a distant treatment? How does it work? A distant Reiki treatment means I do not need to be with you to provide the treatment...I know, I know! That seems absolutely insane and believe me, I was sceptical too before I experienced it for myself! Without getting too technical it is based on Quantum Physics and Einstein's Theory of Relativity - put very simply - everything has an energy because everything is made of atoms. When translated, Reiki means 'Universal Energy'. If you think of energy e.g. electricity, we can't see it but we know it is there. How long is a treatment? The treatment itself lasts approximately 45 minutes and I like to be able to speak (either via message/phone if not in person) afterwards. What do I need to do for my distant treatment? At the time we have arranged, sit or lie down in a quiet space where you are comfortable and won't be disturbed. You can listen to meditation-type music or be silent, whichever helps you to relax. If you need to move during treatment, that is fine, it won't affect anything. DID YOU KNOW...? There is plenty of empirical evidence that Reiki works. The NHS offer Reiki as part of social prescribing and hospitals/hosipices may offer it, especially alongside cancer and end-of-life care. University hospital, Berlin introduced a Reiki department in the hospital after finding 87% of patients reported an improvement in their symptoms after 10 sessions! Patients reported:
- Needing less medication
- Significant pain reduction
- Accelerated healing
- Better sleep
Some private healthcare plans cover Reiki treatments.
