Three-Day Training Program on Integrating Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Initiatives with Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDP) Inaugurated
Dharamshala, 4th September 2025 – A three-day intensive training program on “Integrating Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Initiatives with Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDP)” commenced today under the aegis of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kangra. The program is being held from 4th to 6th September 2025 with the objective of equipping local governance bodies and concerned departments with practical tools and knowledge for effective disaster preparedness and community-based planning.
The program was inaugurated by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Kangra, Smt. Shilpi Beakta, who emphasized the importance of integrating disaster risk reduction strategies into the Gram Panchayat Development Plans to ensure safer and more resilient communities. She appreciated the efforts of DDMA Kangra in organizing such training sessions that aim to strengthen village-level disaster management capabilities and foster inter-departmental coordination.
On this occasion, Mr. Robin Kumar and Mr. Kuldeep Singh from the Disaster Management team were also present. Representatives from various government departments, Panchayati Raj Institutions, NGOs, and other stakeholders actively participated in the inaugural session.
Addressing the participants, Mr. Robin Kumar shared valuable insights about the significance of integrating local-level disaster risk assessments into the developmental planning process. He highlighted how effective Gram Panchayat-level planning can minimize potential risks, ensure timely preparedness, and safeguard lives and livelihoods during natural and man-made disasters.
The training program will cover a wide range of topics, including:
• Understanding disaster risks and their impacts on communities
• Preparation of Gram Panchayat Disaster Management Plans
• Integration of DRR measures in GPDP formulation
• Use of Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) tools for micro-level planning
• Mental health care techniques during and after disasters
• Funding mechanisms and financing disaster risk reduction initiatives
This three-day workshop will feature technical sessions, experience-sharing, and practical exercises conducted by eminent trainers, including Sh. Sandeep Sharma (Psychologist), Sh. Surender (Master Trainer, DPO Kangra), and Sh. Narender (CORD).
The program aims to build a robust disaster-resilient framework at the grassroots level, ensuring that every Gram Panchayat develops a comprehensive and actionable plan for disaster preparedness and response.
