The hospital is named after his father Late Shri Vithal Rao Deshpande. A state-of art outpatient department was opened in 1997. It offers what a child wants!

Started by Dr. Rajan Deshpande in the year 1978, the hospital has bloomed over the last 34 years into a most-sought after and well-established pediatric hospitals in the state. This first ever exclusive pediatric hospital in Dharwad was inaugurated on 27th December, 1978 by Dr.D.V.Nadkarni, a doyen in the field of medicine. Subsequently, a special wing in 1982 and a new hospital building with special rooms, PICU and NICU were built in the 1991. The motto of our hospital is "CHILD’S SMILE IS OUR PRIDE"

It is the first hospital in the district to adopt group practice under one speciality. It offers what parents look for! It offers what the community needs! Children are our most precious assets and our investments for the future of this planet. We are aware of our immense responsibility and commitment to the improvement in the health and well-being of our children. Our objectives are to make a world of difference in the health care and well-being of children, adolescents and their families by integrating medical care, education and research to provide the highest quality care and service to the community and to provide specialized health care services under one roof for all children.

10TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS OF NEW HOSPITAL BUILDING

Vithal Institute Of Child Health and Speciality Centre celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the new hospital building block yesterday on 15th June.
The day started with a Joker distributing small gifts and goodies to all patients. The entire hospital building was decorated and lit up.

We had a grand function for all the staff & consultants of VICH in the evening.

Pediatric Intensivist & Medical Superintendent Dr. Kavan Deshpande welcomed the gathering and conveyed that each and every staff of our hospital was important to us.

Medical Director Dr. Rajan Deshpande addressed all the staff & consultants and told them the inspiring history of how he had started the hospital 46 years back at Dharwad.
He expressed that over the years the hospital had grown tremendously and 10 years back he had felt the need to expand into a state of art new hospital building.

Chief Operating Officer & Clinical Microbiologist Dr. Pallavi Deshpande addressed the gathering and expressed how over the last few decades the hospital has stood tall as a beacon of hope & healing for children and parents of Dharwad and surrounding regions.

CEO Mrs. Kavita Deshpande stressed on the Motto of our hospital "Child's Smile, Our Pride" and that we always keep that in mind while treating every child.

Consultants Dr. Mahesh Patil & Dr. Gopalkrishna Shanbhag gave their words of appreciation on this special occasion.

Dr. Pallavi Deshpande announced the awards for Best Staff of Year, Best Nurse of the Year & Best Staff of the Decade.

Staff & consultants were thanked with a small token of appreciation & gratitude.

As we reflect on decades of selfless service, we also look forward with hope & determination to more decades of healing, compassion and hope 💙

NURSES DAY CELEBRATIONS

Vithal Institute of Child Health Dharwad celebrated Nurses Day in a grand manner with a series of competitions for Nurses conducted over 2 days and ended with a formal function.
Competitions such as Mehendi & Hairstyle competitions, One minute Fun Competitions & Peacock themed Rangoli competitions were held over 2 days.

The formal function was graced by Principal of KLE College of Nursing, Dandeli, Mr. Vinayak Patil. Mr. Vinayak appreciated the efforts taken by the management of VICH to ensure that nurses have a healthy and happy work environment. He motivated the nurses to work hard and ensure that patients get the best possible care. He mentioned that the COVID pandemic made us realise the true value of the nurses in the healthcare system.

Dr. Pallavi Deshpande, COO, also addressed the nurses and thanked them for their tireless efforts, dedication and compassionate care to patients.

Nurses of VICH performed cultural programmes following the formal event.

ALLERGY & ASTHMA CAMP ON 31ST MARCH

Dr. P K Vedantan & Team will be conducting the annual Asthma & Allergy camp at Vithal Institute of Child Health & Speciality Centre, Dharwad on Sunday, 31st March, between 9 am to 4 pm.

The camp will be conducted by team of pulmonologists, and if required, skin allergy tests and spirometry tests will be conducted.
(Kindly note this is not a free camp, and services will be charged for).

HEALTHY BABY SHOW & 45TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

Vithal Institute of Child Health & Speciality Centre is celebrating the 45th Anniversary of the hospital with a Healthy Baby Competition - "Rockstar Baby" on Sunday,10th December, 2023.

Padmashri Dr. MM Joshi, senior Ophthalmologist, Hubbali, will be gracing the event as Chief Guest and senior Pediatrician Dr. Neglur is the Guest of Honor and will be felicitated for his dedicated service over the last few decades.

We encourage all children between the ages of 6 months to 5 years to be a part of the Healthy Baby show on this special occasion of our hospital.

For doctors, learning is a continuous process.

Vithal Institute Of Child Health and Speciality Centre held the 19th Professional Development Seminar for doctors, at Dandeli.

Dr Shantaram Baliga Emeritus Professor, KMC Mangalore gave the Silver Jubilee year Oration of Vithal Institute of ChildHealth

Dr Pramod Jog , Former National President IAP delivered the Late Dr M Jayaram Endowment talk.

Dr Mahantesh Patil spoke on Kidney Diseases & Dr Raghavendra Amoghimath spoke on Seizures in children.

It was amazing to note that 7 doctors above the age of 80 attended the CME - Vision 2023.

Many Yongsters enjoyed the CME as well as watching birds and getting knowledge about nature trees,birds etc from Mr. Vaibhav Kamat, Jungle Lodges.

BREASTFEEDING WEEK CELEBRATIONS

As part of Breastfeeding Week Celebrations, Vithal Institute of Child Health Dharwad conducted an awareness program, on Friday, for mothers of newborns and infants on the importance of Breastfeeding.
Consultant pediatrician Dr. Preeti Pandurangi addressed them on the advantages of mother's milk and it's relation to the healthy growth of babies. It was followed by Interaction and Q & A session with the mothers.

We also donated sweaters to all babies in the hospital.

The program was conducted in association with Rotary Club of Dharwad Prime.

Vithal Institute Of Child Health and Speciality Centre Centre celebrated 9 years of completion of the new hospital building on 15th June, 2023.

Children were given chocolates, stationery and enjoyed with a clown who entertained the crowd and patients.
Kids were very happy and went home smiling.

Vithal Institute Of Child Health and Speciality Centre is happy to have completed 9 years in the new, fully equipped state of art hospital building and continues to serve the people of Dharwad and surrounding regions.

International Nurses Day was celebrated on 12th May at Vithal Institute of Child Health Dharwad.

It was fun filled program with various competitions held over the preceding week followed by cultural event on May 12th.

Dr Mohan, Principal from Mahaganapati School of Nursing was the chief guest.

The theme of Nurses Day this year is"
OUR NURSES, OUR FUTURE".
Nurses truly make a difference in the life of any patient. They are the pillars of health Industry.

ASTHMA & ALLERGY CAMP

Allergy and Asthma Camp was held at Vithal Institute of Child Health, Dharwad by Dr PK Vedanthan USA and team on Sunday, 26th March, 2023.

Complete check up, Lung Function tests and Skin tests to look for Allergens were done.

An Interactive session on "Parents Role in children with Allergy and asthma" was held which was very sucessful.

Commonest allergies that were detected were for dust mites, cockroach and egg.

Greatly appreciate services of Dr Vedantan, an Immunologist who has been rendering his services to our institute for the last two decades.

ASTHMA AND ALLERGY CAMP

Vithal Institute Of Child Health and Speciality Centre in association with Dr P K Vedantan & Team from Colorado, USA is conducting it's annual Asthma & Allergy Camp on Sunday, 26th March, 2023 at the hospital.

The camp is open for children and adults too and will be held from 9 AM to 4 PM.

MEGA PEDIATRIC HEALTH CHECK UP CAMP CONDUCTED AT RAMNAGAR

A sucessful mega health check up was conducted
by 15 consultants at Ramnagar on Sunday.

Pediatricians, Pediatric Cardiologist, Pediatric Intesivist,Pediatric Neurologist, Opthalmologist, ENT Surgeon, Dental Surgeons and Dietician did a marvelous job of screening children.

All kids got Iron Protein, Multivitamin supplements and other necessary drugs.

It was very well organized camp by V R Deshpande memorial trust and Vithal Institute of Child Health & Speciality Centre Dharwad.

More than 350 children availed the benefit of this camp.

Interesting findings were two congenital Heart defects, a case of Psedo Seizures & Hypospadiasis .

Majority of children were undernourished and getting repeated attacks of Respiratory infections.

Truly a satisfying experience to all participating doctors.
