🌈 A Story of Hope and Healing from AMCH NICU 🌈 Meet the brave twin babies of Sachiprabha Doley, born at just 28 weeks via spontaneous vaginal delivery (SVD), were immediately shifted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at AMCH due to extreme prematurity. Both the twins presented with Hyaline Membrane Disease (HMD) and were promptly administered surfactant therapy. The birth weights were 895 grams and 955 grams, respectively. Their journey was far from easy. One of the twins was a case of Bronchopulmonary dysplasia who was on prolonged ventilation, complicated by ventilator-associated infection (Acinetobacter baumannii).

However, under the expert guidance of our Head of Department (HOD) Prof. (Dr.) Reeta Bora ma’am, along with the dedicated NICU doctors and the nursing staff, the baby was successfully weaned off the ventilator after intensive care and appropriate management. Throughout the hospital stay, the parents remained dedicated and supportive , especially in maintaining feeding schedules. Their unwavering trust in our team significantly contributed to the positive outcome. After 2 months of hurdles, hope, and healing, we’re thrilled to share that both the twins have been discharged in stable condition weighing 1.287kg and 1.267kg respectively. To the parents: thank you for believing in us.

২০০৮ চনত, সেই সময়ৰ অসমৰ স্বাস্থ্যমন্ত্ৰী ড° হিমন্ত বিশ্ব শৰ্মা দেৱৰ দ্বাৰা উদ্বোধন কৰা Newborn Unit টি আজি ১৭ বছৰত ভৰি দিছেহি। সময়ৰ বাগৰত Newborn Unit টি MCH building লৈ স্থানান্তৰিত কৰা হয়। এই স্থানান্তৰিত প্ৰক্ৰিয়াত সেই সময়ৰ অসমৰ মাননীয় মুখ্যমন্ত্ৰী শ্ৰীযুত সৰ্বানন্দ সোণোৱাল দেৱ আৰু স্বাস্থ্য আৰু পৰিয়াল কল্যাণ, বিত্ত আৰু গড়কাপ্তানি বিভাগৰ মাননীয় মন্ত্ৰী শ্ৰীযুত ড° হিমন্ত বিশ্ব শৰ্মা দেৱৰ দ্বাৰা Newborn Unit টি নতুন ৰূপত উদ্বোধন কৰা হয়।

এই Newborn Unit টিৰ সমূহ স্বাস্থ্য কৰ্মিয়ে দলীয় প্ৰচেষ্টাৰে নৱজাতকৰ প্ৰাণ ৰক্ষা কৰি বহু পৰিয়াললৈ সুখ কঢ়িয়াই আনিছে। Newborn Unit টিয়ে দলীয় প্ৰচেষ্টাৰে এই ১৭ বছৰীয়া সময়ছোৱাত আটাইতকৈ কম ওজন (৬০০ গ্ৰাম) ৰ নৱজাতকৰ প্ৰাণ ৰক্ষা কৰিবলৈও সক্ষম হৈছে। এই সংক্ৰান্তত Newborn Unit টিয়ে সমগ্ৰ উত্তৰ পূৰ্ব্বাঞ্চলৰ বহু স্বাস্থ্যকৰ্মিক প্ৰশিক্ষন দিছে। প্ৰশিক্ষনৰ এই যাত্ৰা আজিও অব্যাহত . . .

এই ফেব্ৰুৱাৰী মাহত অনুষ্ঠিত হোৱা “Neonatal Mechanical Ventilation Workshop” টি তাৰ এক উৎকৃষ্ট উদাহৰণ। ৰোগীয়া নৱজাতকৰ প্ৰাণ ৰক্ষাৰ বাবে এই Workshop টিৰ প্ৰয়োজনীয়তা অত্যধিক। সমগ্ৰ উত্তৰ পূৰ্ব্বাঞ্চলৰ স্বাস্থ্যকৰ্মিৰ উপস্থিতিৰ দ্বাৰা Workshop টি সফল ভাৱে অনুষ্ঠিত হোৱাৰ কিছু ফ’টোগ্ৰাফ _________

The Newborn Unit was inaugurated by the Health Minister of that time, Hon'ble Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma Sir on 2008 and The Newborn Unit was shifted to the MCH building on 2018. The new building was inaugurated by Chief Minister of Assam Hon'ble Shri Sarbananda Sonowal Sir and Hon'ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Finance and Roads Department of that time, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma Sir.

In this 17 years of journey the health workers of this Newborn Unit have brought happiness to many families by saving the lives of newborns through their team efforts. The Newborn Unit has also saved babies weighing as small as 600 grams. This Unit has trained many health workers across the North East about Newborn Care. This journey is still continuing. . .

The “Neonatal Mechanical Ventilation Workshop” held 22nd & 23rd February is an excellent example of this. This workshop is very much needed to save the lives of sick newborns.
