METFORMIN
It is used as a first line drug in all patients with type 2 Diabetes along with diet and exercise.
It reduces hepatic glucose output ( glucose release from the liver )
It promotes peripheral utilisation of glucose
It also helps in modest weight loss
It significantly reduces adverse cardiac outcome
Therefore it must be used with the advise of a physician by all Type 2 daibetics
Contraindications of metformin : Metformin should be stopped if the patient develops kidney or Liver dysfunction , has acute cardiac problem or other acute severe illnesses.
In all other situations it is a wonder drug at a cheaper price and should be used.
