A Case was represented with RETROBULBUR COENURUS CYST in a goat at State Animal Health Centre, Chanchal, Malda.

👉 Causative Agent: larval stage of Taenia multiceps gaigeri (Coenurus gaigeri), are rare parasitic conditions causing progressive unilateral exophthalmos (protrusion of the eye), congestion, and potential blindness. Surgical excision of the cyst is the primary treatment, often resulting in uneventful recovery.

☀️ Key Aspects of Retrobulbar Coenurus Cyst in Goats:
Cause:

👉 Coenurus gaigeri is the intermediate stage of the tapeworm Taenia multiceps gaigeri, which lives in the intestine of canids.

👉Symptoms: Clinical signs include unilateral protrusion of the eyeball (exophthalmos), swelling behind the eye, conjunctival congestion, blepharitis (eyelid inflammation), and potential vision loss.

👉Diagnosis: Primarily confirmed through clinical signs, ultrasonography, and sometimes radiology, which reveal a large, fluid-filled bladder behind the eyeball.

👉Management: Successful management typically involves surgical removal of the cyst along with its membrane. This may require removal of the eye (enucleation) depending on the damage, often followed by supportive care with anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics.

👉Prevalence: While coenurosis is common in small ruminants, retro-bulbar (behind the eye) localization is rare.

Babesiosis in cattle, also known as redwater, is a tick-borne disease that can cause fever, anemia, and hemoglobinuria (red or port wine-colored urine). While babesiosis can lead to hematuria (blood in the urine), it's crucial to differentiate it from enzootic hematuria, a condition caused by bracken fern poisoning, which also presents with hematuria and other urinary issues.

✏️ Babesiosis:

👉Cause: Protozoan parasites of the genus Babesia, transmitted by ticks.

👉Clinical signs: Fever, anemia, hemoglobinuria, lethargy, weakness, jaundice, and in severe cases, neurological signs (cerebral babesiosis).

👉Pathology: Parasites invade and destroy red blood cells, leading to anemia and the release of hemoglobin into the urine.

👉Diagnosis: Microscopic examination of blood smears, PCR, and serological tests.

👉Treatment: Antiparasitic drugs like imidocarb dipropionate, and supportive care (fluids, antipyretics).
