🤔🤔🤔Ever had to do a follicular study/ folliculometry and wondered - what the hell is that???????
I’ve got you covered!!!
When a couple is trying to conceive, one of the most important points, is to ensure that OVULATION is occurring and whether the endometrium or the lining of the uterus is healthy enough-and if so WHEN does it occur.
💜First day that you bleed is Day 1 of the menstrual cycle.
💜A baseline ultrasound study is essential to ensure that there are no abnormalities like cysts noticed on day 2 of the cycle.
💜Folliculometry per say- begins on day 8-9 of cycle, to notice whether any of the ovaries have chosen it’s dominant follicle for the month.
💜By day 12-14, in women with regular cycles, a dominant follicle would be of >16mm in diameter and ready to rupture and release the EGG for that month and the endometrium or the lining of the uterus will be nice and thick - THIS IS THE TIME YOUR DOCTOR WILL ASK YOU TO START TRYING EVERY ALTERATE DAY.
💜 Day 16 or more your doctor may ask for a rupture/ ovulation confirmation scan, which will show a crumpled follicle with irregular edges and some free fluid ( it is likely that in 1-3 days prior to this scan you would’ve ovulated and sensed a few symptoms like- mild lower abdominal tugging sensation, clear watery discharge, spotting ). After ovulation, the endometrium loses the three distinct lines, and it gets influenced by progesterone- a hormone which helps SUPPORT a pregnancy if at all it has occurred.
