A bit about me.

A Cognitive Psychologist with BA and MA in psychology, and a PhD from IIT Bombay, i have explored the field of education in depth. I taught for almost a decade at XLRI Jamshedpur and lectured at IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Bombay, IIM Kozhikode as well as The American University of Armenia, SP Jain Dubai, XLRI Dubai as well as presented papers at several conferences. My area of interest is the creation, dissemination distribution and use of knowledge.

Spirituality Life and Mental Health is an NGO started by my father, the late Dr. Baker Fenn, a Psychiatrist from kottayam. This program is being organized as part of their Annual General Body.

Today we explore the world of subatomic particles. What is a particle accelerator? What is the thing that CERN operates? What is the famous higgs boson?

A particle accelerator is a magnetic tube through which particles go faster and faster over long distances (Linear Accelerator) sometimes it goes round and round (cyclotron). Funny thing is that particles don't accelerate much since they are almost traveling at the speed of light. Einstein said that's a hard limit you can't cross. So what really happens is that the particle absorbs energy and becomes heavier (we should call it a mass-er not an accelerator). In a collider, particles smash into other particles and often break up or combine, making interesting observations.

The great Lumiere brothers, the fathers of modern cinema visited Bombay and showed some of their work at the Watson Hotel. (See the birth of Indian Cinema: https://youtu.be/hzf8DmHnIXI ) The malayalam film Celluloid (2013) is a biography of JC Daniel, the father of Malayalam Cinema (here is a song from the movie: https://youtu.be/_p5ePbdwPGU), staring Prithviraj, Sreenivasan, etc. The father of Indian Cinema was Harilal Sen (find that link for yourself, I am not going to make EVERYTHING easy for you)

The Watson Hotel (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watson%27s_Hotel ) itself is a marvel of engineering and its own right, it is one of the few surviving CAST IRON buildings, but currently in total disrepair thanks to our Indian mindset that does not value beauty or history.
