πŸ” Myths vs Reality: Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

Urinary Tract Infections are common, but myths often cause confusion and delay proper treatment. Let’s separate fact from fiction!

🚫 Myth 1: Only women get UTIs
βœ… Reality: While UTIs are more common in women, men, children, and the elderly can also develop them.

🚫 Myth 2: Drinking cranberry juice cures a UTI
βœ… Reality: Cranberry may help in prevention for some people, but it cannot replace antibiotics for active infection.

🚫 Myth 3: Holding urine is harmless
βœ… Reality: Regularly holding urine can increase the risk of UTIs and bladder problems.

🚫 Myth 4: UTIs always cause burning while urinating
βœ… Reality: Some UTIs are silent, especially in older adults, showing only vague symptoms like weakness or confusion.

πŸ’‘ Takeaway:
If you have symptoms like frequent urination, burning, pelvic pain, fever, or cloudy urine β€” consult a urologist immediately. Early diagnosis and proper treatment are key to avoiding complications like kidney infection.

πŸ’‘ What is HOLEP?
HOLEP stands for Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate. It’s a modern, laser-based surgery to treat Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) β€” or enlarged prostate.

🟒 Safe
πŸ”¬ Precise
πŸ’§ Long-lasting relief

❓ When is HOLEP recommended?
If you’re experiencing:
🚽 Weak urine stream
πŸŒ™ Frequent night urination
πŸ”„ Stopping & starting while peeing
πŸ’¦ Feeling of incomplete emptying

➑️ You may benefit from HOLEP β€” especially if the prostate is large (>80–100g).

πŸ” How is HOLEP done?
No cuts – Laser is passed through the urethra (urine passage)

Laser enucleates (removes) the entire inner part of the enlarged prostate

Tissue is pushed into the bladder

It’s then removed using a special instrument called a morcellator

⚑ Uses Holmium Laser = Precision with minimal bleeding

🎯 Why choose HOLEP?
βœ”οΈ Suitable for large prostates
βœ”οΈ Minimal bleeding – good for patients on blood thinners
βœ”οΈ Quick recovery
βœ”οΈ Durable results – almost no need for repeat surgery
βœ”οΈ Preserves erectile function in most men
βœ”οΈ Short hospital stay (1–2 days)

⚠️ What to expect after HOLEP?
🩸 Mild blood in urine (few days)
πŸ’§ Burning sensation while urinating (temporary)
πŸ” Retrograde ej*******on (common but harmless)
πŸ›οΈ Rest for a few days, avoid heavy work for 2–4 weeks

πŸ₯¬ 4. Lycopene-Rich Foods:
Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant linked to improved prostate health found in tomatoes, watermelon, and pink grapefruit.

πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ 5. Lifestyle Habits That Help:

Exercise regularly – especially pelvic floor (Kegel) exercises

Bladder mass refers to an abnormal growth or tumor that can develop in the bladder. The most common type of bladder mass is bladder cancer, which can be benign or malignant. The presence of a bladder mass can cause various urinary symptoms such as pain during urination, frequent urination, blood in the urine, and urinary urgency.

TURBT is considered the gold standard for diagnosing and treating bladder masses. Transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) is a surgical procedure that is commonly used to diagnose and treat bladder masses. During a TURBT, a surgeon inserts a cystoscope through the urethra and removes the bladder mass using a wire loop. The removed tissue is then sent to a laboratory for examination to determine whether it is cancerous or non-cancerous.

Retrograde intra-renal surgery (RIRS) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to treat kidney stones and other conditions affecting the urinary system. During RIRS, a flexible ureteroscope is inserted through the urethra and into the urinary tract, allowing the surgeon to view the kidney and treat any stones or other obstructions. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes around an hour to complete. RIRS has several advantages over traditional surgical approaches, including shorter recovery times, fewer complications, and a lower risk of injury to surrounding tissues. It is often the preferred treatment option for patients with smaller or more complex kidney stones, as well as those who may not be suitable candidates for other surgical procedures.

Kidney transplant is a surgical procedure that involves replacing a damaged or diseased kidney with a healthy one from a donor. This life-saving procedure can improve quality of life and increase life expectancy for those with end-stage renal disease. The donor kidney can come from a living donor or a deceased donor, and the transplant surgery typically takes a few hours to complete. After the procedure, patients need to take medication to prevent rejection of the new kidney and will require ongoing medical care to ensure the success of the transplant. Kidney transplant is a complex and life-changing procedure, but it can offer hope and a new lease on life for those suffering from kidney failure.

24/04/2023

Kidney cancer, also known as renal cell carcinoma, is a type of cancer that starts in the cells of the kidney. It is often asymptomatic in the early stages, but as the tumor grows, it can cause symptoms such as blood in the urine, pain or pressure in the back or side, and weight loss.

Management of kidney cancer depends on the stage and location of the tumor. Treatment options include surgery, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. In some cases, a combination of treatments may be used.

Surgery is often the first line of treatment for kidney cancer, and can involve partial or complete removal of the affected kidney, nowadays usually performed with Robotic assistance. Targeted therapy and immunotherapy are newer treatments that specifically target cancer cells or boost the body's immune system to fight cancer.

In addition to medical treatment, lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, and managing high blood pressure can also help manage kidney cancer. Regular follow-up appointments with a healthcare provider are important to monitor the progression of the disease and the effectiveness of treatment.
