Podikizhi
Podikizhi is a method of therapeutic sweating or fomentation where the body is thoroughly massaged with cotton bags containing herbal ingredients in powdered form and made into poultice. Several types of grains like Horse gram, Sesame seeds, Black gram and other curative ingredients are powdered fried and tied up in cotton bundles or Kizhi. The cotton bags are warmed up periodically by dipping in warm medicated oil or herbal juices as moderate heat is required cause body to sweat and a general massage is done to the patient lying in a specially designed table.
