It's time for the season of happiness, celebrations, sparkling lights, tasty treats, and munchies! Diwali is one of the most anticipated holidays in the country, even though we live in a place where there are celebrations and festivals every day of the year. Monday, October 24, is the festival's date this year. For Hindus, Diwali is a holiday that is extremely important because it symbolizes the triumph of happiness over despair, light over darkness, and good over evil. Diwali is commemorated in Hindu mythology as the day that Lord Rama returned to his hometown of Ayodhya after vanquishing the evil king Ravana. With his wife Sita and brother Lakshman, he returned to Ayodhya after a 14-year exile. To mark the occasion, the entire kingdom is decorated with celebratory diyas and lamps.
This custom is still followed today as people decorate their homes for Diwali with candles and traditional earthen lamps (diyas), making sure that every entry and boundary is lit up. The goddess Lakshmi is also said to visit and bless her devotees on earth from above. People visit their loved ones, present customary treats, and well wishes, and organize get-togethers to spread the holiday cheer.
On that note, Vivalyf here's wishing you all a very happy and bright Diwali!
Let each diya you light bring a glow of happiness on your face and enlighten your soul. Happy Diwali!
