Classical definition of yoga.
What is yoga?

The classical texts define yoga as a Process
of Channelling the Forces or Expressions of
the Mind . How? By following a Discipline .

What is the aim of discipline?
To establish yourself in your real nature.

These are the first three statements in
Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras :the foundation
of yoga practice and philosophy.

Yoga begins with the BODY , goes to the
MIND and aims to Realize the Inner Nature.

The question can arise: If yoga deals with
the mind, why does it begin with the body?

Yoga looks at the well-being of the Triangular
Harmony of the Body, Mind and Spirit .
Body, mind and spirit have to come together
so that we can become a complete human
being and experience the wholeness of life.

In order to create a system, a progressive
practice, and to immerse oneself in yogic
disciplines, there is a very beautiful sequence.

If yoga was only physical exercises,
these statements would reflect that
physical component. But they do not.

If yoga was a religion, these introductory
statements would reflect that religious
inclination. But they do not; rather, in
the yogic tradition yoga has to be seen
as a discipline, a lifestyle and a science
of practical living.

Unchained Soul

O friends of yonder hills,
Give me a piece of your land,
Just a couple of meters not more,
I can snug in the smell of moss and pine,
In the soft earth of morning mist and dew,
Let my body ease the chains of mortal cage,
For the soul that forever prayed to free itself,
Be among the spirits that talk not but smile,
They laugh and giggle in hushed cadence,
And blush at the faintest hint of sunshine,
To rush through the golden fields at day,
Climb the winding roads till dark descends, Eager to feel the embers of a coal stoked fire,

Your physical body is not just a machine, it
is your Home , your Altar , your Temple !
You came into this world eager to Know,
to Experience , to Learn , to Live & Evolve.
It is the Legacy of your Soul .

And one of the lessons of life is how
to accommodate yourself in a body,
in a material world. Therefore, take
very good care of your physical body.
What you are basically, deep, down,
far, far in, is simply the Fabric and
Structure of Existence itself.

The body has a living intelligence of its own,
which you do not know, but which you can
sense. If you don't take care of it, you don't
care about it, then the experiences you get
will be in accordance with your love for it.
You need your physical body to be content.

And for that you need to give it: food,
water, love, union with your partner,
exercise (i.e. movement), contemplation,
good and constructive thoughts, gratitude,
daily cleansing both physically and
energetically, work, socializing, etc.

Health isn't just absence of any dicease
in body. Total Health is 4-D Wellbeing.
1.Physical.2.Emotional.3.Social.4.Spiritual.

Epigenetic Modification:

Children inherit approximately 23,000 genes from their parents, but not every gene does what it was designed to do. Experiences leave a chemical “signature” on genes that determines whether and how the genes are expressed. Collectively, those signatures are called the epigenome.

The brain is particularly responsive to experiences and environments during early development. External experiences spark signals between neurons, which respond by producing proteins. These gene regulatory proteins head to the nucleus of the neural cell, where they either attract or repel enzymes that can attach them to the genes.

Positive experiences, such as exposure to rich learning opportunities, and negative influences, such as malnutrition or environmental toxins, can change the chemistry that encodes genes in brain cells — a change that can be temporary or permanent. This process is called epigenetic modification.

EATING WITH YOUR HAND...

The ritual of eating with the hands in India is very popular even out of India amongst Indian descendants.

Is there a reason why we do this?

Oh yes.
Believe it or not. This is actually a "RITUAL" using what we call as "Mudra"

Well, what is a "Mudra"?
The Mudra is a symbolic or ritual gesture or pose in Hinduism. This involves hands and fingers in a certain gesture used for multiple purposes such as good health/control, Balance, control of energy and even communication such as in dance forms like Bharathanathyam and kathak.

So when we eat with our hands we form a Mudra with which symbolizes humility and grace of being humble.

According to the Vedas, the hand is considered to be a very important part of the body. In Ayurveda, we say that each finger of the hand consists of an element, that being: Agni (fire) , Jal (water) , Vayu (wind) , Prithvi (Earth) & Aakash (space).

Hence it is believed that when the fingers consisting of the 5 elements come into contact with the food entering the mouth, it benefits the body and health and increases the value of the food.
