✨ Proud Moment ! ✨
What better way to begin the new year than with our purpose being featured, in The Hindu Business Line under “Miracle cures devised by medtech firms.”
“Preserving limbs- QRL Bioscience is working on immune cell-based therapies derived from peripheral blood, and this is designed to avoid invasive procedures like bone marrow aspiration or fat extraction, explains Dr Kranti Vora, co-founder of the company.
The startup aims to treat chronic conditions such as diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) and osteoarthritis. Underscoring the population-level impact, co-founder Dr Senthilkumar Natesan says, ‘Our goal is to save as many limbs as possible. Globally, around one million limbs are amputated each year; and in India alone, a five-year-old data shows around one lakh amputations annually.’ Post the amputation, the mortality rate shoots up within five years, since quality of life deteriorates, he adds. In QRL’s therapy, the use of peripheral blood simplifies the process, Natesan says. Nurses can collect the blood and administer the treatment, eliminating the need for highly specialised personnel or high-end operating theatres. The company is also exploring developing cost-effective therapies for conditions such as osteoarthritis, myocardial damage, brain and spinal cord injuries, and corneal repair. These treatments are currently expensive as they are imported from the US and UK.”
Grateful for this recognition as we work towards saving limbs and making advanced cell therapies more accessible.
