The Department of AYUSH, Soreng PHC successfully organized an AYUSH Outreach Health Camp at HWC/PHSC Zoom under the guidance of Dr. Roshma Thapa, Medical Officer (AYUSH), Soreng PHC.

The programme aimed to strengthen community health by providing doorstep screening, wellness consultations, and lifestyle modification guidance.

The Ayurvidya School Health Program was successfully organized at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Pakyong, on 31st October 2025 by the Department of AYUSH, PHC Pakyong.

The program aimed to create awareness among students about the importance of holistic health and the traditional systems of medicine under AYUSH.

The session was led by Dr. Kuljan Lama, Medical Officer i/c (AYUSH), and Dr. Adarsh Sharma, Medical Officer (Homeopathy), who highlighted the principles and benefits of Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha/Sowa-Rigpa, and Homeopathy.

The students were encouraged to adopt healthy habits, balanced diets, and mindfulness practices for maintaining physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

As part of the program, haemoglobin screening was conducted for the students to detect anaemia and provide necessary dietary and lifestyle counselling.

The initiative effectively combined health education with practical preventive screening, fostering awareness of self-care and wellness among adolescents.

AYURVIDYA Mental Health Awareness Programme Held at Rumtek,Senior Secondary School, Gangtok

Gangtok, October 31,2025: An Ayurvidya Mental Health Awareness Programme was organized atRumtek Senior Secondary School, Gangtok on October 31,2025, by the AYUSH Department, Government of Sikkim. The programme aimed to educate students on the AYUSH system of medicine, mental health, emotional well-being, and effective coping mechanisms.

The session focused on promoting emotional resilience, encouraging open conversations about mental health, and reducing stigma among school children. It also emphasized the role of traditional systems of medicine in maintaining holistic well-being.

The programme was led by Dr. MP Dash (Medical Officer, AYUSH), who guided students through interactive discussions.

A total of 65 participants, including students and school staff, attended the event, which successfully created awareness and fostered a positive attitude towards mental health and wellness.

AYUSH Outreach Health Camp Held at Rumtek GPU

Gangtok, October 31, 2025: An AYUSH Outreach Health Camp was successfully conducted today at Rumtek GPU, Gangtok. The camp was organized by 10 bedded AYUSH Hospital,Sochakgang under the Department of AYUSH, Government of Sikkim, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote holistic health and wellness among the rural population.

The program included health consultations by AYUSH doctors, along with blood pressure monitoring, and blood tests such as haemoglobin and random blood sugar screening. Participants also received counselling sessions on healthy living, balanced diet, and preventive healthcare practices.

In addition, AYUSH medicines and immunity boosters like Chyawanprash and Ayush Kadha were distributed to the beneficiaries. The camp witnessed an encouraging participation, with a total of 77 community members availing the services.

Such outreach initiatives aim to strengthen the preventive healthcare system among the common masses.

Event: Coordination Meeting at STNM Hospital on October 29, 2025

A coordination meeting was held under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Health Minister Shri G.T. Dhungel, in the presence of Shri Tshewang Gyaccho, IAS, Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department. Other attendees included the Principal Directors, Medical Superintendent (MS) STNM, Director (Adm), STNM, AMS-II, Heads of Departments (HODs), Specialists, Nursing Superintendents, Engineers, and other officials.
The Secretary highlighted key issues concerning patient referrals outside the state, operational challenges, and the need for better utilization of existing health facilities.
Key Directives:
• Increase ultrasound examinations; scan non-emergency IPD patients in the afternoon.
• Minimize out-of-state referrals; clearly mention patient preference in referral forms.
• Organize medical camps only with prior government approval.
• Report non-functional equipment immediately to the concerned authorities.
• All gynaecologists to utilize the available USG machines.
• Ensure proper guidance to patients in the Emergency Ward and timely referrals to specialists.
• Dental OPD to function in two shifts on working days and from 9 am to 3 pm on holidays.
• Keep the sample collection room open on holidays.
• Avoid outsourcing tests that can be performed at STNM.
• Maintain strict duty hours (9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) and conduct regular departmental rounds.
• Prescription of generic medicines and avoid unnecessary changes in prescriptions.
• Consider increasing OT days and introducing evening shifts to reduce patient load.
• Ensure technician presence at their respective workstations during working hours
• Proper use of HMIS software.
• Restrict mobile phone usage during duty hours and maintain discipline among support staff.
• Regulate vehicle movement within the hospital premises through a “touch and go” system.
• Give preference to in-state referrals;
• Minimize leave and avoid private practice during duty hours.

A team from 50 Bedded AYUSH Hospital Geyzing ,comprising of doctors - Dr. Nitali Lepcha( M.O Homoeopathy ), Dr.Chandini Chettri( M.O.Ayurveda) Dr. Bindiya Gurung( M.O. Yoga & Naturopathy)along with other staffs of AYUSH and PHSC initiated the outreach program. Breast Cancer Awareness Month Observed by AYUSH Department, District Hospital Namchi at Lower Ghurpisey and New Hospital Namchi.

16th October 2025, Namchi District Hospital:

As part of the observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October 1–31), Department of AYUSH, District Hospital Namchi organized an awareness programme at Lower Ghurpisey to educate women on early detection, prevention, and timely treatment of breast cancer.

The session highlighted that breast cancer occurs due to abnormal growth of breast cells and is most common among women. The doctors emphasized that early detection and awareness play a vital role in successful treatment and survival.

Participants were informed about the common warning signs and symptoms.
Women above 40 years were encouraged to practice monthly breast self-examinations and to seek medical advice promptly if any changes are noticed.

The doctors also stressed preventive measures, such as maintaining a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables, avoiding alcohol and to***co, regular physical exercise, and promoting breastfeeding.

The programme aimed to raise awareness, and remove fear and stigma, and motivate women to take proactive steps toward their health.

Poshan Maah Celebration at ICDS Vishal Gaon, Sikkim — October 16, 2025

Gangtok, October 16, 2025: The AYUSH Department, Government of Sikkim, successfully organized a Poshan Maah celebration at ICDS Vishal Gaon on October 16, 2025, as part of the 8th Rashtriya Poshan Maah campaign.

The program witnessed active participation from ICDS workers, ASHAs, ICDS students, and members of the local community. The event featured a series of engaging and educational activities, including:

- Awareness sessions on AYUSH systems of medicine and their role in preventive healthcare

- Haemoglobin testing for anaemia screening and blood pressure monitoring

- Distribution of IEC (Information, Education, Communication) materials on nutrition and healthy living

- An inter-ICDS centre competition where ICDS workers showcased balanced food recipes; winners were felicitated with prizes to promote nutritious eating habits

Department of AYUSH, District Hospital Singtam successfully conducted a mental health awareness program 'AYURVIDYA' at Government Secondary school, Namphing today.

The program was led by MO(I/C) AYUSH Dr. Manisha Kumari (Homoeopathy) and Dr Kiran Singh, MO( Ayurveda) which included introduction of AYUSH , awareness on Mental health,Stress management techniques and coping skills, Balanced diet and nutrition.
Miss Sonam P Tongden (Psychologist) displayed various mental relaxation techniques.
A quiz competition and prize distribution was also done to engage students actively.

Alongwith awareness Height, weight, BMI, RBS and Haemoglobin screening was also done for students and faculty with the help of Lab Technician and support staffs. Total 63 students and 27 staff members got benefitted through the awareness and screening program.

The Department of AYUSH, Pakyong Hospital, hosted a program to commemorate Poshan Maah at the Hall of Pakyong–Yakten GPU. The event aimed to educate the community on the importance of nutrition, health, and overall well-being, with a focus on women and children.

The program featured Dr. Kuljan Lama, Medical Officer (Ayurveda), and Dr. Adarsh Sharma, Medical Officer (Homeopathy), as the keynote speakers. Both experts underscored the significance of a balanced diet, maternal and child health, and adolescent nutrition.

They also discussed the role of AYUSH systems in promoting holistic health through proper diet, lifestyle management, and preventive healthcare practices. As part of the celebration, a free health check-up camp was conducted by the AYUSH team. Haemoglobin and blood glucose screening tests were carried out to assess the participants’ nutritional and health status. Based on the findings, necessary health advice and AYUSH medicines were provided to the beneficiaries.

The event witnessed active participation from local panchayat members, ASHAs, ICDS workers, and community residents, who lauded the department’s effort in promoting community health and nutrition awareness.
The program concluded with a collective message reinforcing the vision of “Suposh*t Bharat, Saksham Bharat”—a nutritionally strong and healthy nation achieved through community involvement and sustained awareness.

Advisor to Ayush Shri A.K. Ghatani, Chairman Shri Manoj Pradhan, OSD (Ayush) Madam Deena Chettri, and OSD (Health) Madam Ganga Parsai paid a visit to the Ayush Department, where they received a warm welcome from the medical staff.

During their visit, Shri Ghatani offered his sincere congratulations to the entire team for setting up a dedicated ward with six male and six female beds exclusively for the Ayush Department—a milestone achieved for the first time. He further emphasized that this achievement reflects the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s vision to enhance healthcare facilities and ensure that Ayush services receive the recognition and expansion they deserve in the state.

National Voluntary Blood Donation Day was organized by Blood Centre, District Hospital, Namchi at the TB Conference Hall, today.
The theme this year was “Give the Gift of life, Donate Blood”.

Six regular voluntary donors were felicitated for their selfless act of regular blood donation by our Chief Guest, Dr. S.N Adhikari, Director cm Chief Medical Officer.
Along with him the program was adorned by the presence of Dr. Bishal Pradhan, District Medical Superintendent and Dr. Dichen O. Bhutia, Sr. Blood Bank Officer, District Hospital Namchi.

The welcome address was delivered by Mr. Bhaichung Bhutia (Sr. Technical Officer). The purpose of the day was highlighted by Dr. Dichen O. Bhutia. Interesting stories about the journey of blood donation in their life was shared by Mr. Anish Pradhan and Mrs. Srijana S***a. Words of encouragement was given by Dr. Bishal Pradhan, DMS and Dr. S.N Adhikari, CMO.
Pledge taking ceremony to conduct blood donation regularly was conducted.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. B.N Sharma (Technical Officer).

Every single voluntary blood donor is being appreciated and encouraged to continue their lifesaving donations.

HBTC is a multidisciplinary Committee concerned exclusively with practices and policies related to transfusion and the transfusion service to ensure patient safety. Establishment of HBTC is recommended by the WHO, NABH and The National Blood Policy. The Members constituting the committee are
