Your baby is not “too gassy.”

Most of the time…
It’s a burping technique issue.

We see this daily in clinic 👇
• Crying after feed
• Arching back
• Pulling legs up
• Milk coming out
• Restless sleep

Before blaming breastmilk.
Before changing formula.
Before cutting foods from mother’s diet.

Fix this first:

✔ Burp during feeding, not just after
✔burp for 5-10 min
✔ burp in different positions
✔ Don’t overfeed

Newborn digestion is immature.
But your technique can make it comfortable.

Small corrections. Big difference.

“Dr, my baby is just playing with food… not eating!”

Let me tell you something important 👇

When your baby:
• Touches food
• Squishes it
• Throws it
• Smears it

They are not being naughty.
They are developing feeding skills.

Food play between 6–12 months is a normal developmental stage. Babies learn texture, build sensory tolerance, improve hand-mouth coordination, and develop chewing confidence before actual intake improves.

If you stop the exploration, you may delay self-feeding confidence.

Messy meals today = independent eater tomorrow.

Let them explore. Guide gently. Avoid pressure. Avoid distraction.

“Doctor, my baby is not eating.”

But the routine is:

Khichri – Morning
Cerelac – Evening
Repeat for weeks.

And then we blame the baby.

Here’s the truth no one tells you:

❌ Same food daily reduces taste acceptance
❌ Same texture delays chewing skill
❌ Limited exposure increases picky eating risk
❌ Pressure starts when appetite drops

From 6–12 months, this is the most critical window for food acceptance.

If you miss it, you don’t get it back easily.

This is not about khichri.
This is about food diversity, texture progression & confident eating foundations.

Most picky eating starts right here.

If you don’t want feeding battles at 2 years…
Fix the foundation at 6 months.

Doctor, why are you always saying NAHI?”

Because every “NAHI” is protecting your baby’s future.

❌ No purée at 6 months
❌ No sugar for taste
❌ No packaged cereal powders
❌ No endless smooth purées

And a BIG YES to 👇

✔️ Chewing skills
✔️ Texture progression
✔️ Self-feeding
✔️ Confident eaters
✔️ Healthy relationship with food

Sometimes parents think I am strict.
But I am not saying NO to you…
I am saying NO to picky eating, feeding aversion, and delayed chewing.

Starting solids is not about filling the stomach.
It’s about building skills.

If you want to raise a confident eater, the right start matters.

“Doctor, my baby is not eating.”

But when I ask what you’re offering…
It’s the same khichri from Monday to Sunday.

Babies are not born picky.
They are born curious.

When you repeat the same food, same texture, same taste daily —
Appetite drops. Curiosity shuts down. Resistance begins.

Food refusal is often menu fatigue, not a stubborn baby.

Between 6–12 months, variety builds taste acceptance.
Texture builds chewing skills.
Exploration builds confident eaters.

If you want your baby to eat better,
start changing the menu — not increasing the pressure.

Most picky eaters are created with excess liquids.

Dal water. Kanji. Juice. Soup. Misri pani.
They look harmless. They reduce appetite.

From 6–12 months:
✔ Milk (breastmilk or formula)
✔ Water
✔ Real mashed & textured food

❌ No replacement drinks.

“Doctor, garmi aa rahi hai… baby ka gala sukh jayega. Paani de dein?”

This is one of the most common summer myths.

Newborn babies DO NOT need water before 6 months — even in Indian heat.

Breastmilk is 88% water and naturally adjusts according to temperature. In summer, the foremilk becomes more watery to hydrate your baby.

Giving water to a newborn can:
• Reduce milk intake
• Dilute sodium levels (risk of water intoxication)
• Increase infection risk
• Interfere with weight gain

WHO and IAP guidelines clearly recommend exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months — no water, no honey, no ghutti, no gripe water.

Your baby’s throat will not dry.
Your baby is designed perfectly.
Trust physiology. Not pressure.

Should I stop breastfeeding if I have fever?”

One of the most common fears new mothers have.

Here’s the truth:

✔ You can breastfeed during fever.
✔ You can breastfeed during cough and cold.
✔ Your body produces antibodies — and they pass through milk to protect your baby.
✔ Paracetamol is generally safe while breastfeeding.
✔ Most antibiotics are safe — but always consult your doctor.

Breast milk is not the problem.
It’s part of the protection.

Can I give sugar to my 8-month-old?
What about jaggery? Organic gud? Palm jaggery? Brown sugar?

As a pediatrician, my answer is clear:

❌ No added sugar below 2 years.

All forms of sugar — white sugar, brown sugar, jaggery, palm jaggery, coconut sugar, khandsari, date sugar — are added sugars.

They:
• Condition the taste buds toward sweetness
• Reduce acceptance of natural flavors
• Increase risk of picky eating
• Increase future preference for sugary foods
• Add empty calories

Babies do NOT need sugar.
They need exposure to natural textures and real flavors.

Let them taste food. Not sweetness.

If you want a confident eater — protect their palate early.
