Drug-Food Interactions involving OTC Drugs,Dietary Factors and Habits.
In this 21st century,the life style of the people has improved to a great extent and amidst their busy life schedule,they are health conscious and want to live a comfortable life.Therefore I want to make the people more aware by depicting the a few drug-food interactions.
1)Milk or other dietary products that contain calcium,retard absorbtion of tetracycline by forming a complex with it.
2)Cheese and alcoholic beverages contain tyramine.Tyramine is metabolized by the monoamine oxidase in the git wall and the liver.If however,monoamine oxidase is inhibited,large amount of tyramine gets absorbed which may result in hypertensive crisis.
3)Changes in Vitamin K concentration as a result of change in the type and nature of foods affect anticoagulant therapy.Similarly,the protein content of food has been shown to affect the elimination of amphetamine.
