आज भाद्रपद मास के शुक्ल पक्ष की चतुर्थी तिथि और 10 सितंबर दिन शुक्रवार है. इस तिथि को ही गणेश चतुर्थी कहा जाता है. मान्यता है कि भगवान गणेश का जन्म इसी तिथि को हुआ था. लोग इनके जन्मोत्सव को गणेशोत्सव के रूप में बड़े धूम-धाम से मनाते हैं. गणेश चतुर्थी का यह उत्सव 10 दिनों तक चलता है. इसका समापन अनंत चतुर्दशी को भगवान गणेश के विसर्जन के साथ किया जाता है.

गणेश चतुर्थी के दिन लोग गणपति बप्पा के मूर्ति की स्थापना करते हैं. उसके बाद प्रति दिन नियमित रूप से उनकी पूजा आराधना करते हैं. गणेश चतुर्थी का पर्व भगवान श्री गणेश जी को समर्पित होता है.
