We all know that the Scourge of Diabetes is virtually affecting each and every family, in one way or the other, particularly in cities, where life is more stress full, sedentary, and the fast food culture is more prevalent. Obesity is more common - physical activity is much less. For this very reason, INDIA IS NOW THE WORLD CAPITAL OF DIABETES. 90% of people suffer from Type 2 Diabetes.
HOW TO AVOID DIABETES COMPLICATIONS:- 1) Make HbAlc easily available & affordable. It must remain below 7. It is an index of 3 months' average blood sugar.
2) Keep your Blood Pressure under Control. It must remain as near to normal as possible - with or without medicine. Normal is 120/80 mm of Hg. Check it every month.
3) If you are Overweight - You must reduce your weight. Do some physical activity like Walking daily.
4) Keep your Lipids - especially LDL in the normal range. Check your Triglycerides - normally they remain high in most Indians.
5) Diet Discipline is MOST IMPORTANT. We Indians have a SWEET TOOTH. Refined Sugar & sweets must be avoided. Use Stevia drops or tablets for your tea or Coffee. You must Avoid Smoking & To***co at all costs. Avoid Alcohol or take it in moderation.

My last post on the WHO report elicited lots of responses. Many were interested in the post while another major group wanted to chat with us.

IGNORANCE & UNAWARENESS of LIFESTYLE diseases, on the longevity and quality of one's life, is very much at stake, both in terms of money and all-round fitness

Perhaps what is required is ample caution. Most of us are pretty busy in our prime youth - trying to work hard & succeed in our careers. We take UNDUE STRESS, EAT AT ODD HOURS, AND EAT MOSTLY EASILY AVAILABLE CONVENIENT JUNK FOOD. SMOKING & DRINKING becomes another easy excuse to destress.

CAN WE AVOID IT - YES & NO?

As an ample precaution, we must try to:
1. AVOID STRESS. 2. AVOID EXCESSIVE SMOKING OR DRINKING. 3. TRY TO EAT HEALTHY HOME-COOKED FOOD 4. EAT MORE FRUITS 5. GET OUR BLOOD PRESSURE & FASTING BLOOD SUGAR CHECKED - REGULARLY AS A RITUAL - particularly if one has a family history or genetic predisposition and last but not least 6. GET YOUR BLOOD LIPIDS TEST DONE, once in a while.

I presume this is not asking for the sky - looking at the fact that a maximum number of deaths take place due to ACUTE HEART ATTACK OR MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION WHICH OCCURS MOSTLY IN UNDER 40 AGE GROUP.

I NEED YOUR RESPONSE? WRITE TO ME, IF YOU AGREE OR EVEN IF YOU DISAGREE??

Today is World Heart day - There has been an unprecedented surge in deaths due to acute Heart Attacks - especially those under the age of 40. The reasons are early onset of high blood pressure or pre-hypertension, pre-diabetes or diabetes or higher levels of bad cholesterol(LDL) woth low HDL and high triglyceerides. ALL THESE ARE DUE TO UNHEALTHY LIFESTYLES, OBESITY, SMOKING, STRESS AND STRONG GENETIC PREDISPOSITION.

WHO report, released on Wednesday, 22nd September 2022, says NCDs account for 74% of global deaths.

The common Non-communicable diseases (NCDs,s) are Heart diseases, Cancer & Diabetes - and all of these are due to our Lifestyle, unhealthy eating, lack of physical activity, and poor awareness and ignorance. Why? Isn't it tragic? Think??.

41 million people die every year, and 17 million are under the age of 70. Young lives get frittered away, because of apathy and ignorance among the vast majority of our population.

We must change this. Think and respond, and we will tell you How?

The Summary of THE BHAGWAT GITA. (Inputs by Banglore ISCON)

The blind King Dhritarashtra asks Sanjaya to recount to him what happened when his family - the Kauravas, gathered to fight the Pandavas for control of Hastinapura. His family isn't the rightful heir to the kingdom, but they have assumed control and Dhritarashtra is trying to preserve it for his son Duryodhana. Sanjaya tells of Arjuna, who has come as leader of the Pandavas to take back his kingdom, with Sri Krishna as his charioteer. The Gita is the conversation between Krishna and Arjuna leading up to the battle.

Arjuna doesn't want to fight. He doesn't understand why he has to shed his family's blood for a kingdom that he doesn't even necessarily want. In his eyes, killing his evil and killing his family is the greatest sin of all. He casts down his weapons and tells Krishna he will not fight. Krishna, then, begins the systematic process of explaining why it is Arjuna's dharmic duty to fight and how he must fight in order to restore his karma.

Krishna first explains the samsaric cycle of birth and death/. He says there is no true death of the soul - simply a sloughing of the body at the end of each round of birth and death. The purpose of the cycle is to allow a person to work off their karma, accumulated through lifetimes of action. If a person completes action selflessly, in service to God, then they can work off their karma, eventually leading dissolution of the soul, the achievement of enlightenment and vijnana, and an end to the samsaric cycle. If they act selflessly, then they keep accumulating debt, putting them further and further into karmic debt.

Krishna presents three main concepts for achieving this dissolution of the soul - renunciation, selfless service, and mediation. All three are elements for achieving 'yoga,' or skill in action. Krishna says that the truly divine human does not renounce all worldly possession or simply give up action, but rather finds peace in completing an action in the highest service to God. As a result, a person must avoid the respective traps of the three Gunas: rajas ( anger, ego), tamas (ignorance, darkness), and sattva (harmony, purity).

The highest form of mediation comes when a person not only can free themselves from selfish action, but also focus entirely on the divine in their actions. In other words, Krishna says that he who achieves divine union with Him in mediation will ultimately find freedom from the endless cycle of rebirth and death. He who truly finds union with God will find him even at the moment of death.

Arjuna still seems to need evidence of Krishna's divine powers, so Krishna appears to him in his powerful, most divine form, with the "power of one thousand suns." Seeing Krishna in his divine state, Arjuna suddenly realizes what enlightenment can bring him in the union, and he now completely has faith in the yogic path. He goes on to ask Krishna how he can receive the love of God, and Krishna reveals that love comes from a person's selfless devotion to the divine. In addition to understanding that the body is simply ephemeral - a product of Prakriti, emerging from Purusha and is subject to endless rebirth. A person must let go of their body's cravings and temptations and aversion to find freedom.

The Gita ends with Krishna telling Arjuna he must choose the path of good or evil, as it is his duty to fight the Kauravas for his kingdom. In that, he is correcting the balance of good and evil, fulfilling his dharma, and offering the deepest form of selfless service. Arjuna understands and, with that, proceeds into battle.
